| | [April fools] IGN Entertainment acquires MSX Resource Center |
| | Monday, March 28, 2005 - 23:10 Submitted by: snout Topic: MSX Resource Center | | This post is an April Fools joke! Please read about it here
After more than 10 years of independence, growth and increasing costs the MSX Resource Center Foundation received an offer we could not refuse. After several weeks of thinking things over we decided to take the next logical, inevitable step in order to ensure the MSX Resource Center will be able to continue offering their services in the future.
The services of the MSX Resource Center will soon be brought to you by the widely known IGN Entertainment, a company which is, amongst others, responsible for such websites as Fileplanet, 3dgamers.com and Classicgaming.com. The current team of MRC admins, webmasters, translators and moderators will remain involved in the delivery of MSX contents to our visitors in the future.
The advantage of this move to the MRC Foundation (and our visitors) is that our financial situation will improve greatly, while MRC can rely on the expertise of IGN Entertainment in case of legal issues.
Due to the nature of this message and the reactions that might follow to it, IGN and MRC have decided to inform the MSX community about this press release before issuing this press release to the international media. You can find the full press release, which will be issued later this week over here.

| By konamiman on March 29 2005, 18:04 | Damn, I could have anticipated this by posting something like "MSX Association buys the design of ObsoNET for 1M€ and they will start mass-production of the card on April 1st"...

| By Grauw on March 29 2005, 21:21 | Is this really a joke? Early april fools jokes are pretty lame! Actually, I’m waiting for a reaction from one of the MRC people, but the lack of it makes me thinks it is.
If it isn’t, congratulations! IGN has been in quite an acquisition mood lately . So, when will we see msx.ign.com? (that would surely be an MSX in the media event ;p). Let’s hope though that such a big-player-swallows-independant-company kind of thing doesn’t end up á la AOL vs. Netscape / Winamp / etc.

| By BiFi on March 29 2005, 21:26 | Like? Microsoft buying Winamp or something?
| | |
| By Grauw on March 29 2005, 21:39 | AOL bought Winamp. And development has pretty much stalled, very unfortunately. Now my favorite MP3 player will never understand unicode or even *play* files with non-Latin-1 characters in the filename .
AOL bought Netscape, and although they on one hand did a good job at setting up Mozilla and giving them something to start with, on the other hand they also treated the employees terribly and were co-responsible for one of the most popular browsers flushing down the drain.
AOL also bought ICQ... Dunno what happened there, last time I actually used ICQ was at least 5 years ago, because it was too heavy and bloated and ugly. But I don’t think that is a success story either. I like Trillian better now .
