Challenges - 25th anniversary MSX-BASIC competition at Konamito.com

 Wednesday, March 05, 2008 - 17:54
 Submitted by: Konamito
 Topic: Challenges

On the 27th of June this year, the 25th anniversary of our beloved MSX will be celebrated. At Konamito.com this is celebrated by an MSX-BASIC game competition. A maximum of ten lines of BASIC code is allowed, other than that, the theme is free to choose but there are some other rules to be obeyed when participating. All of them can be checked here.
The grand prize is not known yet, but it is going to be something MSX related for sure! The prize will be announced before the end of April. Most importantly, the deadline is due June 26th, 23:59 CET so you'd better start coding soon!

Hmmm... probably you mean 23:59 CEST, Konamito? Don't know whether or not Spain does the daylight savings thing, but it'd be wise to change this for those bloody 'mericans (Hi dvik!) and other people that would like to send their entries at the very last minute (*cough*wolf*cough*)

Wolf and ten lines of BASIC?
Me rather expects some wicked stuff from dvik & NYYRRIKKI
By dvik on March 06 2008, 01:25
Are there any limitations on the length of the lines (40, 80, 255 characters)?
By NYYRIKKI on March 06 2008, 15:18
255 characters/line limit is only for n00bs

I really would like to figure why these contests always focus in old/msx1 system recquirements. MSX community should focus on SymbOS.
By hap on March 06 2008, 16:28
This contest and MSXdev are of Spanish origin, and, like it or not, I believe MSX1 was more popular than MSX2 over there.
By PingPong on March 06 2008, 19:31
For those people MSX only mean MSX1. As already said this is the main reason of low success of newest msx generations. Even in the PAST...

By dvik on March 06 2008, 19:56
I don't think the lower activity on MSX2 has anything to do with the current popularity of MSX1. I just think that there are fewer active MSX2 enthusiasts at the moment.
By PingPong on March 06 2008, 21:05
dvik: But how can be MSX2 entusiast if MRC only promotes MSX1 competitions?
By PingPong on March 06 2008, 21:08
Plus MSX-BASIC IS MSX-BASIC even on msx2 2+ TR..... not only on msx1 so a competition on msxbasic should not be limited to msx1 only...

I had problem opening that file in firefox. It worked in explorer, at least yesterday.

The web database has been hacked and due the webmaster trip to RetroMadrid (old MadriSX) the page will continue down for some days
By NYYRIKKI on March 07 2008, 23:08
If someone knows the rules, please post them here...
By [D-Tail] on March 09 2008, 17:20
The website now states that the servers have been taken down for maintenance. It's just a matter of time before it's back on [I hope]. Too bad, the timing couldn't have been more unfortunate.
By Konamito on March 11 2008, 08:18
Today I'll upload the contest rules to the server in order to be public for everyone.

I'm working hard on the webpage so it will be online this next weekend.

Join us!

Here they are: English and Spanish

Happy coding!
By NYYRIKKI on March 13 2008, 00:59
Posting links seems to be easy as writing good BASIC

I just read the rules and I like the idea. How ever the rules are full of holes that allow you to bypass them if you wish...

If you for example read the first 6 lines of this source, you can see that it could be used in this competition... (That part of the BASIC program adds commands KEYBUF and SYS to MSX-BASIC among other tasks)

... and trust me when I say that it is not even hard to push the same functionality to 2 BASIC lines.
