3,000 One Chip MSX computers sold

MSX Revival - 3,000 One Chip MSX computers sold

 Monday, August 15, 2005 - 22:45
 Submitted by: snout
 Topic: MSX Revival

On May 20th, ASCII started taking pre-orders on the new One Chip MSX. On July 10th, Bazix started taking pre-orders as well, whilst on the same day 2,000 One Chip MSX computers were sold. As of today, the 3,000 pre-orders barrier was passed as well. However, there are only 5 days left to sell another 2,000 One Chip MSX computers to make commercial production of the One Chip MSX possible.

At the moment, it is unknown what will happen if, on August 20th, the 5,000 pre-orders barrier has not been passed, but certainly announcements by ASCII, Bazix and/or MSX Association are to be expected during the coming days. An exciting week awaits us.

The announcement will be that Bazix now co-owns Chiquita. When the 5000-mark isn't made, the people who pre-ordered will get 189 euro worth of bananas!

From the FAQ:
Quote:

The One Chip MSX will be delivered with the VHDL code that is used to achieve MSX1 compatibility. At this moment it has not been decided yet under what form of license this code will be released. We plan to announce this information in the near future.

Bazix, could you please clarify the license before the pre-order period closes? Since playing with the FPGA code is one of the main selling points for the One Chip MSX, I think such an important question should not remain unanswered.

Thanks for sharing

Does the counter on https://www.ascii.co.jp/1chip/ include the pre-orders made through Bazix?
By Bart on August 16 2005, 15:19
No Arjan, it's only ASCII's pre-order count.
By ditman on August 16 2005, 15:37
I've just pre-ordered mine... Still trying to fix my broken MSX2 but I WANT that onechip thingy
By Samor on August 16 2005, 16:37
selling 400 a day?
well, miracles are possible they say ...

By wolf_ on August 16 2005, 17:31
When there's news about the msx2 being the standard 1cm-config, pre-orders might rise ..

Let's say, the more the product migrates to the specs the scene is moaning about for months now, the better the chances are ^_^

(just don't mention the cas-port again :S )

By Algorythms on August 19 2005, 18:56
3290... Seems like Nishi is sitting in front of his PC ordering one by one now
By SolidEric on August 19 2005, 19:55
Nishi buying 1710 minus bazix's pre-orders........I once said it...he's gonna buy the rest himself
By cax on August 19 2005, 21:53
Nishi will spend hundreds of thousands dollars on buying OCMs ?
Maybe he is a very rich man.
By BiFi on August 19 2005, 21:59
what's the current number of orders @ Bazix anyway?
By snout on August 19 2005, 22:30
cax - in fact Nishi is quite a wealthy man indeed. At MSX World 2005 he joked that he would buy the remaining OCMs needed to make production possible with some 'pocket change'. ^_^
By SolidEric on August 19 2005, 23:11
I said it
By legacy on August 20 2005, 00:05
Oh, and I hope he will do it.
By cax on August 20 2005, 01:28
snout, of course I do remember about this Nishi's promise - I read your article about Japanese MSX fair and proofread it's russian translation. I wrote my message because I did some calculations, got number > $200000 and became sceptical about his promise.
By POISONIC on August 20 2005, 03:54
its 20th of august 2005 ...............
By BiFi on August 20 2005, 09:41
/me still awaiting the 5,000 One Chip MSX computers sold newspost as Nishi supposedly buying the remaining number to start production
By BiFi on August 20 2005, 09:42
(not to mention the number of order Bazix already has, btw) :\
