A news posting on
Gigamix online indicates that
ASCII might not be involved in the upcoming MSX Magazine by
MSX Association.
On
December 22nd 2002, both
ASCII and
MSX Association released MSX Magazine - collectors edition. This magazine included the official MSX emulator
MSXPLAYer and was thus the formal start of the MSX Revival. In a very short timespan, nearly 33.000 copies were sold, more than anyone had expected.
However, despite of its history with MSX, despite of the succes of the last MSX Magazine,
ASCII has been very divided about MSX in the past years. It was this division among the people who work at
ASCII, combined with its doubtful financial situation that caused
Kazuhiko Nishi to raise the
MSX Association. All rights and patents concerning MSX were transfered to this Association.
While
MSX Association is busy working on a new MSX Magazine and new versions of MSXPLAYer, the new staff of
ASCII does not want to confirm whether or not
ASCII will publish this new magazine. However, they still seem to be the first option. The choice to publish the new magazine or not will mostly depend on the final result and on how good
ASCII thinks it will sell. We'll keep you informed!
