MSX Resource Center - Bart Schouten leaves MRC foundation and admin team

 Topic: MSX Resource Center

After more than 7 years of fulfilling his duties as an MSX Resource Center crew member, Bart Schouten decided the time has come to hand over his duties as an admin of our website and a board member of the MSX Resource Center foundation to someone else.

Bart joined the MRC crew late 1999. At the time Sander van Nunen, founder of the website, was out of motivation and inspiration to keep the msx.org domain running. Bart's plan to make a dynamic, database-driven website that was easy to maintain and gave visitors the opportunity to register an account and contribute to the site contents turned out to be just what the site needed. Together, Sander and Bart developed and designed a website content management system coded in ASP and running in an Access 97 database which was launched in May 2000.

The new approach soon turned out to be a huge success. Within no-time hundreds of MSX fans around the world had signed up for an account and slowly but surely they started submitting news and links, posting reactions to news and - a few months later - discussing on the MSX Resource Center forum. Trying to keep up with the immense growth of the website, several switches in web hosting were made and, in September 2002, a foundation was raised in order to pave the way for a solid and secure future. In December 2002 a completely restyled MRC was launched (now coded in PHP and MySQL). Although a lot of features have been added and tweaked in the mean time the site launched back then is essentially the MSX Resource Center as you know it today.

Bart Schouten played a key role in all these (and much more) processes involving the MRC and it goes without saying that without all his efforts and inspiration the MSX Resource Center simply would not have been the same today. Bart's position in the MRC foundation is now in the hands of MSX Resource Center admin Maarten van Strien. The entire MSX Resource Center crew would like to thank Bart for all his activities and dedication.

I think we can all agree on the fact that the result of all these years of devotion is a clean, professional-level, pleasant and mature website. How often do you see that for something as aged as MSX?

Nowhere else! Again, congratulation for MRC! I guess Bart did a great job, so I hope it will still go on like this without him, but I have a very big faith in Snout and Wolf

Too bad you’re leaving! I was there too, during those days (don’t forget me!), and they were fun and interesting times! It was nice to see the MRC grow so much through our combined efforts. Hope you won’t leave this part of your life behind entirely, and keep in touch with MSX.

There's little new to add, but still: thanks Bart!!

To me, as to probably the other admins, webmasters, etc., it's really odd to see Bart leaving. When I joined MRC as an admin in 2003, Bart surely was playing a key role in the way the newspost is talking about. And apart from that, a very pleasant companion on fairs, MRC meetings and such. The character of MRC has surely changed since then, but still it's odd to see him leaving. Anyway, Bart, thanks for the efforts and I rest assured, as I know we didn't drink our last beer together (far from) yet

I completely agree with Rikusu. Personally, I have enjoyed working with Bart a lot and I'm glad I will keep working with him in Bazix.
