| | Best demo poll down, RPG company poll up |
| | Monday, April 14, 2008 - 23:16 Submitted by: wolf_ Topic: Polls | | It's the 14th already, high time for a new poll! Prior to presenting the new poll, let's have a look at the outcome of the megapoll finale from March/April. Which MSX demo is the all-time best? After several rounds of voting and finally a front page poll, here's the outcome after 438 people have voted: - 1. Unknown Reality (NOP) 28.54%
- 1. MSX Unleashed (dvik and Joyrex) 28.54%
- 3. Metal Limit (IOD) 22.15%
- 4. Sphere (Infinite) 20.78%
The new poll is less heavy/serious than you've grown to expect from us lately and more light polls like these may follow until MRC2k8 will be out. To kick off these lighter polls you're invited to vote for the company that has made the best RPG on MSX. Do note that your vote should be based on the single best RPG and not on a complete series as a whole. In addition, your vote should be based on the overall gaming experience, not just on isolated aspects like story, graphics and music. Heal your life, upgrade your magic, and cast your votes!
If you have an idea for a interesting poll, send your idea to poll@msx.org and we will consider running your suggestion for a month.

| By Ivan on April 14 2008, 23:29 | Very interesting poll, is Komani going to win this time? SD Snatcher is a heavyweight...
| | |
| By wolf_ on April 14 2008, 23:34 | Perhaps, in earlier megapolls the competition may have rolled out earlier leaving SD-Snatcher against some n00b game or something. In this case it's choosing between SD-Snatcher, Ys, Dragonslayer6, Xak123, Fray, Illusion City, you name it. And no matter how good SD-Snatcher is, it'll have to battle with the best games from the best companies..

| By wolf_ on April 14 2008, 23:36 | Naturally, I'm not going to put down a whole list of every company that once made an RPG..
| | |
| By dvik on April 14 2008, 23:42 | Of course. And Koei only did japanese games, but just looking at the intros and size of the roms it seems like Koei put out a lot of (perhaps) high quality RPGs. But it doesn't matter to me, I'm voting from one of the ones you listed anyways.

| By Grauw on April 15 2008, 00:03 | Tough, but I guess I’m going to have to go with Falcom! Konami’s my second choice.

| By ro on April 15 2008, 09:37 | congrats to N.O.P. for wining the previous poll.

| By manuel on April 15 2008, 09:39 | I think Koei wrote many non-MSX specific games with converted graphics. Many are not RPG's but more strategy games like Super Daisenryaku.
They did make a few RPG's, which could be quite interesting. But graphics wise it is not as good as Microcabin or Falcom.
(Compare Snatcher graphics with SD-Snatcher graphics...)

| By wolf_ on April 15 2008, 09:57 | ro: #1 and #2 are equal! The nlist tag is somewhat primitive ..
| | |
| By ro on April 15 2008, 10:03 | let's see:
Compile: Golvellius, Golvellius II, Randar, Randar II, Randar III. Is the Runemaster series an RPG? Wasn't "COOK" (or sumpfn) also some RPG from Compile?
Falcom: YS, YS II (Final Chapter), YS III (Wanderers from YS), Dragonslayer (Legend of heroes), Dragonslayer II/III (Xanadu), Dragonslayer IV (Drasle Family), Dragonslayer V (Sorcerian), Dragonslayer VI, Romancia
Konami: (SD)-Snatcher. Can we call them MG serie also RPG?
Microcabin: AshGuine 3, Fray (is it an RPG?), Illusion City, XAK (the art of visual stage), XAK II (Rising of the red moon), XAK III (Tower of Gazzel) [note: it's official name is not XAK III]
Other: euhm... Koei?
Tho FALCOM made some great RPGS, and a lot of'm, and I DO like DS6 the most, my heart goes out to Microcabin. They made some BRILL stuff!

| By wolf_ on April 15 2008, 10:14 | Personally I don't see MG and MG2 as RPGs, if you want another konami entry: how about Shalom?
| | |
| By fondacio on April 15 2008, 14:25 | I guess T&E Soft was relegated to the "Other" category? I guess that's their punishment for calling the Hydlides "active role playing games" rather than just RPGs.
| | |
| By wolf_ on April 15 2008, 15:26 | Yeah, actually I considered T&E as a 5th option but I estimated it wouldn't hold up much compared to the other 4.

| By [D-Tail] on April 15 2008, 19:01 | What is MRC2k8?
| | |
| By wolf_ on April 15 2008, 19:52 | The codename of a new type of dishwasher, to be released by Peelips Gnarlpool in 2008. MRC has 50% shares in this project, the profits will go a new server (and a good meal in a restaurant after Bussum!) ..
I swear!
| | |
| By ro on April 15 2008, 20:32 | I heard rumors about a new design for this crappy site
MRC2k8 will be the "more modern look" website than?
| | |
| By Ivan on April 19 2008, 09:26 | This poll should ask: "What company did produce the best RPGs ever made for MSX?". If it isn't asking this, the results are not going to be interesting. And I believe that a lot people have voted with this question in mind... (we are not going to get reliable results).

| By dvik on April 20 2008, 20:05 | Hey wolf_, I just saw that #1 and #2 has the same number of votes. Can you change it to be the same (although when the poll was said to close, the 13th I believe, UR had more votes than Unleashed so the ranking is probably correct) ?
