Utilities - EdiOS 0.0

 Topic: Utilities

Today, a first preview of EdiOS was released. EdiOS is a new GUI (graphical user interface) for MSX2 and higher. EdiOS is developed mainly in C, assembly is only used when speed is essential, or when a functionality that C can't offer by itself is needed.
  • Support more than one SCREEN mode. The first version is likely to use SCREEN 5, 6, 7 and 8
  • The right mouse button can be used to open a properties menu
  • Support for copying files by copy/pasting them or drag-and-drop
  • Correct handling of various file extensions (e.g. let ExecROM execute .ROM files)
On the EdiOS website you can watch a couple of screen shots and download an early version of EdiOS.

More precisions :

- this tool requires MSX-DOS 2.2 or higher
- for the moment, the link to the OS file on the website is wrong - the correct link is :

http://www.msxtop.msxall.com/EdiosDownload/EdiOS00.zip
By snout on March 27 2006, 01:12
link was fixed on the website already

I had mentioned the error on the MSXBR-L mailing list) !
By mars2000you on March 27 2006, 01:24
Just received this precision from Edison about the first version of the link :

Benoit,

The link is correct. It redir for download counter, but I noticed it is off line, I donīt know why...
But the link you passed can be used, since the download counter will not acessed.

I'll try this GUI at home
By spl on March 27 2006, 17:27
I have a question: this GUI can be used with HARD DISK or LS-120 drives or is only for working with normal floppies?
By snout on March 27 2006, 17:29
the website mentions it is even intended to be run from Harddisk and other large media.
By msd on March 27 2006, 19:28
It also lists msx-dos2.xx. I so far never seen a dos2 program that doesn't run from IDE/SCSI
By msd on March 27 2006, 20:18
Why do the files need to be in the root?
By spl on March 27 2006, 20:47
Well, now I'll finish my turn, so I will try this GUI. Hope also that there will be regular news about it
By spl on March 28 2006, 00:08
For being a totally early version, I must say that it works well , so il will be included in my LS-120 disks when they arrive. Also, now waiting for a bit more advanced version.
