Galaxy Hero Legend 2 intro rearrangement by Wolf_

Music - Galaxy Hero Legend 2 intro rearrangement by Wolf_

 Topic: Music

Today it has been exactly three years since Wolf_ last released a game music rearrangement. In celebration of the third anniversary of Metal Gear 1, a song that has topped the download charts ever since it has been put into the MRC download database, Wolf_ has now released a new rearrangement, which has just been added to our downloads corner.

This time, Wolf_ made an orchestral rearrangement of the intro demo music of Galaxy Hero Legend 2. This game, released by Bothtec in 1990, is one of the most obscure games for MSX: a strategy game that might have potential, but is completely unplayable if you don't master the Japanese language. It's likely that you either don't know the game at all, or only know the intro because of its quality.

This endeavor features all the music from the original intro but adds an enormous amount of new material by Wolf, to make up for a better and more rounded orchestral piece. The resulting music is a staggering 20 minutes in length! Also in the package are labels for a CD jewel case, for those who want to give this music a more physical form.

Very nice piece of music, Wolf_! I'm afraid I don't know the original well enough to give any comments on that part, but the composition as a whole is very neatly done! Pity you make these things only one in three years, otherwise there would be a lot of songs that would be nice to rearrange like this.

Nah, I'll do more in the future, I was a bit fed up with the methods I used to make MG1 for a while, and since half a year my new music PC more or less introduced me to this current style.

One nag point is that I'd really wish for emulators (either open or blue) to be able to automatically diskwrite seperate waves soon, as was discussed before.

Is this tune PSG or SCC?
By wolf_ on March 27 2007, 21:46
PSG-only, but with those |\____ envelopes and such.
By manuel on March 28 2007, 09:44
Huh? Isn't it FM + PSG?
By poke-1,170 on March 28 2007, 13:32
hats off to you sir, that's over 20 minutes of very well arranged music,
instruments sound very realistic as well I must say.
not bad for just one PSG (kidding)
By Unicorn on March 28 2007, 20:16
It sounds just like a movie-score, very impressive! Two big thumbs up!
By KNM on March 28 2007, 20:16
Sweet!!Terrific work,as always.Wich programs do you use for making this wonderful tunes?I´m looking for good full orchestra sound for a long long time
By wolf_ on March 28 2007, 20:57
Cubase, Halion, Revisit (it's all tracked music )
By DamageX on March 28 2007, 22:25
Thank you wolf_ the quality of your music is great as always.

Anyone have more info on this game? It looks like it could be interesting...
By wolf_ on March 28 2007, 22:28
I had Rikusu have a look at the game, but he couldn't really make cheese of it, even tho he could read/understand it all. For that reason, this intro is all I know, I've completely no idea whether the rest of the game (4 disks!) has similar music, .. imagine a whole treasure-room full of music being there, and we just can't get there.. ^_^

wolf_: more music from Konami games please!!!!
By wolf_ on March 28 2007, 22:37
The Xaks are also on my shortlist, but not until either blue or open (or nlmsx for all I care ^_^) has an automated channel diskwriter. I did some browsing in KSS/MMP yesterday, and there's not very much which is suitable for a large-scale rearrange, or at least suitable for lengths comparible with common music, e.g. 2..4 minutes. Most game tunes have a loop of about 30 seconds. The Xaks have longer music, somewhat over a minute.
By Rikusu on March 28 2007, 23:22
Yes, the Xaks, they deserve it a lot more than Konami's! Yet I can't help you with the automated disk writer stuff. Go bug them developers!

And yet another great example of what MOONBLASTER can do !!!...
By GhostwriterP on March 31 2007, 10:15
I don't think the timing is correct
By dvik on April 09 2007, 07:30
Great arrangement wolf_ Would be fun to hear it with a real orchestra
By wolf_ on April 09 2007, 12:02
That'll be $100.000 then..

One could ask tho.. but don't be surprised if they answer with "w000t? no Bach? who do you take us for?"
By snout on April 09 2007, 22:27
Think again. Also see: C64 orchestra. (hi poke!)
By wolf_ on April 09 2007, 22:47
Think again, how big was that C64 orchestra again? 16 orso? I think that number is too high even. For an identical sound as what's in this mp3 you'd need 60 string players, 10 brass players, about 7 woodwind players, about 6 percussionists (that includes chromatic percussion), a massive church organ (for 5 chords in total ^_^), a choir of about 60 I think and two harps (I *think* two, that is). That's about 12x the C64 orchestra already..

+ The C64 was more popular than the MSX, so the orchestra might have liked it somewhat more, and while I dunno whether there was any entrance fee, it'd prolly have made some $ if the orchestra required some, we've seen the youtube vids, there was quite some audience. How many ppl would visit an MSX event of the same concept, with a minor ensemble, playing JP gametunes instead of scene tunes (e.g. the audience might be ex-scene or at least scene-followers) ? Also keep in mind there would be rehearsals, I dunno if they would cost anything. I've rehearsed an early movie of me with an orchestra of ~37 ppl, you aren't just dealing with instruments, but als with ppl.. giggling, talking, moving their seats, violins need to be tuned after a while, discussions about the score, slight modifications to the score etc. etc. etc. It's just so frigging labor-intensive and time-consuming.. and prolly costly as well.

I'm not against the concept, I just don't think it's doable in the way this tune requires, because I'm not going to let this tune be scrutinized by a minor ensemble.
By wolf_ on April 09 2007, 22:49
but, of course, if you let Nishi invest for such an event whenever he's in NL on some fair... ^_^
By dvik on April 10 2007, 00:28
You can always try to get a scholarship as a conductor at a University with a decent orchestra. I know UCSD, University of California San Diego, have a quite good semi professional orchestra and I've been to concerts with student conductors. I'm sure other universities have the same. Probably a lot harder to get in to University as a conductor than as a software engineer though.

And they get a pretty big audience even for unknown conductors/composers.
By poke-1,170 on April 10 2007, 03:49
actually I recommend listening to this again with headphones on...
it sounds very spaceous (realy ? oh it's a science fiction game ), again I think the sounds
are very well chosen, and unbelievable you can get something
this natural sounding done in a tracker... it must have been a hell of a
job, since it's shitloads of different layers of instruments simultaneously.
