| | MRC Airwaves Challenge - Results |
| | Sunday, March 06, 2005 - 22:36 Submitted by: snout Topic: Challenges | | On January 26th we started a brand new MRC music composing challenge: the Airwaves challenge. The challenge resulted in 8 different songs, all with a common theme: modern music. Although this theme is subject to many different interpretations, the results speak for themselves. The main juror of the challenge, Poke -1,170, has carefully listened to each song and let us know his findings. In other words, here are the results to the MRC Airwaves Challenge: - New generation of mighty monkey (mp3)

| By snout on March 06 2005, 22:39 | Sidenote: The track composed by Wolf_, Wings, gained the highest score. Yet, as the entry was sent in after the deadline of the challenge, the penalty of 1 point put the song on third position.
| | |
| By mars2000you on March 06 2005, 23:04 | Why the 3rd position and not the 2d position ?
Your system of penalties is not very clear ...
| | |
| By snout on March 06 2005, 23:10 | It is. Every song gets a grade from 1-10. (1 being very bad, 10 being exeptionally good), after calculation of the scores (in which the main juror's vote is thrice the value of the MRC admin/webmaster votes combined), the post-deadline entries get a discount of 1 whole point, as previously announced. (Also see: MRC Bounce Challenge). Just because we don't publish the grades, doesn't mean it's unclear ^_^.

| By wolf_ on March 06 2005, 23:12 | ( not that a care a lot about #3, but anyhow: )
If the points-system is from 0..10, then -1 is 10% penalty. But if for some reason the jury is in a 'nice/friendly' mood etc. and decide to use 6..10 (worst..best), then -1 is relativily more penalty. So, it would be nice to see the actual given points.. (that's a request for all challenges btw )

| By DarQ on March 06 2005, 23:13 | mars is your visitor... if it is unclear to him, then something is wrong,
and Meits, come on!!
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 06 2005, 23:23 | huh sigh... bunch of kids...
je hebt een 9 van mij maarten.
alleen inexpensive t laagst, maar verder niemand onder de 7,5
reken ze
| | |
| By wolf_ on March 06 2005, 23:28 | don't worry, it's ok ..
| | |
| By mars2000you on March 06 2005, 23:28 | For my part, I think that losing a place (and not 2 places) should be a more easy and understandable system for the penalties ....
But the more important is elsewhere : actually, the real winner is Infinite for the second time !
I've read the comments of the jury : excellent work ! And if you read the comments, you know who is thevreal winner ...
So, let's forget points and penalties, and simply read the comments by listening at the same time the music (viewing the demo is another story ... maybe one eye on the comments, and one eye on the demo )

| By poke-1,170 on March 06 2005, 23:28 | oh en by the way,hoe heet die track van je op RMF, en dan wel die met die vector spaceshuttle?
| | |
| By snout on March 06 2005, 23:29 | Mars: You definitely need two eyes for the demo
Poke: this -is- the English part of the MRC you know (subtle hint)
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 06 2005, 23:29 | is there a way to add you to MSN or AIM maarten?
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 06 2005, 23:32 | specifically shouldn't pay attention to the demos
I downloaded everything with my eyes closed
fingers flashing over the screen...
trackmo? vincent van dam? Haven't seen that? Pink gyro? ehhh...
What do you say? A poem by skye? Sky as in airplanes? Sure you don't mean the underwater challenge?
I'm all confused now, setting my entire MSX collection on fire and pissing on it while laughing demonically....when all the stars are properly alligned, you'll be in for something y'all

| By Bart on March 07 2005, 12:41 | @Meits... You're joking right?
| | |
| By sander on March 07 2005, 12:44 | sigh
| | |
| By MeitsNearDark on March 07 2005, 12:46 | Err... Sorry, the postdate is not accurate anymore since I removed a typemismatch which i discovered this morning...
It was posted just a few days after the Airwaves challenge was opened. Honest. But it's funny afterall
| | |
| By Bart on March 07 2005, 12:49 | Allright, it's good you mention that Otherwise I would think you posted it today. I don't see how it's funny though
| | |
| By MeitsNearDark on March 07 2005, 12:50 |
why do you sigh? I see it from a humorous point of view.
| | |
| By sander on March 07 2005, 12:57 | Actually I think you are a little childish to keep rubbing that in. Snout correct his error as soon as he possible could. Still you keep nagging about it. It's not only you, there are more people around here that make me wonder why the hell we keep this site running. Complaining complaining complaining. The only thing we may do is pay for the hosting bills and do whatever you please pronto. This is a hobby project, not some commercial firm. If you pay me personally, you may throw mud at me.
Please note that we can actually take a lot of criticsism. But people should realise we are people too. We have feelings too you know
| | |
| By MeitsNearDark on March 07 2005, 13:03 | I don't see your point. Sorry. There's no connection between me finding out that one month ago I posted on our own site stuff might still go wrong on a real machine, just now and having fun seeing that, and wanting to share it with snout from a funny perspective and that fact that you pay money and are able to take critisism.
This money thing has nothing to do with it. It's your own choice, you pay money. No one forced you, so don't bring that up.
I don't understand how you can find critisism in my post full of smileys and happiness :S
| | |
| By sander on March 07 2005, 13:08 | Well, let me make one thing clear: we don't think it's funny.
| | |
| By MeitsNearDark on March 07 2005, 13:17 | Sorry Sander, no hard feelings, but you are little narrowminded now. Especially the 'we' statement, coming a few seconds after my post implies you consulted all MRC's opinions, which I find hard to believe.
I want to finish this yes/no thing here. I didn't start this to make you look bad, it's just that you feel like that.
| | |
| By sander on March 07 2005, 13:42 | my apologies, "we" must be "I" of course. No hard feelings Meits.
| | |
| By MeitsNearDark on March 07 2005, 13:43 | all forgotten. Good thing
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 07 2005, 14:23 | All friends now...dmp all the mp3's in winamp and put it on loop sing chants of joy...hope the review of your song cheered you up a little...it's what I thought of it,so...

| By [D-Tail] on March 07 2005, 18:37 | Woei! /me RNFF again
Hey, nice contributions people! You kept me quite busy for some time, listening to all of your entries Great job!
| | |
| By snout on March 07 2005, 18:40 | /me is going to do a little RNFF now.
To take the humorous side: Seems like you're a true visionary, Meits
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 07 2005, 19:40 | RNFF : Rational number from floating point
(what the hell is RNFF?)
| | |
| By snout on March 07 2005, 19:46 | It's running naked in a field of flowers. A thing members of the MSX community tend to do when they decide to stop arguing
| | |
| By snout on March 07 2005, 19:47 | Perhaps we'd better discuss the results of the MRC Airwaves Challenge from here on, though. What did you think of the songs? What do you think of the 'top 7'?
| | |
| By snout on March 07 2005, 20:28 | ARF...
| | |
| By Vincent van Dam on March 07 2005, 21:03 | You might want to re-read the first lines of the newspost also
| | |
| By snout on March 07 2005, 22:04 | well, there -were- 7 entries. Blame the guy who submitted one entry with 2 (+1) different tunes! Oh wait, that's you! ^_^
Fixed it though...
| | |
| By Vincent van Dam on March 07 2005, 22:21 | Hey! That was a well kept secret!
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 07 2005, 23:56 | you all have SICK ideas !!!
RNFF?
HIPPIES !!!
| | |
| By snout on March 08 2005, 00:00 | You should blame J-War for that one
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 08 2005, 00:15 | FRENCH HIPPY !!!!
(there..that better?)
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 08 2005, 04:35 | Oh yeah ON TOPIC MES AMIS (including myself)
| | |
| By MeitsNearDark on March 08 2005, 13:12 | Just did som RNFF, though now I've to sit to pee. This is shrinkey weather :S...
On topic:
My top 7 or 8 would have looked quite some different, though I guess that's a matter of taste.
The winning tune wouldn't have won if I was the jury, cuz sorry, It hurt my ears. There were some great passages in it which were like an angel peeing in my ears. Though the squeeking sound which is allover the song could've been left away in my opinion.
Wolf_'s submission was by far superior. Even with a 3 point penalty it'd still have won, cuz it's at least 3 points better than anything else.
Those remarks were put here as a spectator and not as a cometetor...
| | |
| By DarQ on March 08 2005, 13:35 | there is a song that hurts my ears too! and it's.... no.1 !! ?? especially the weeeweeewee noise...
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 08 2005, 14:21 | Admitted,those noises are annoying,so that's why it was my #2.
Yet it's a funny choice imho to put those noises in,it adds to the overall sillyness of the tune. I still wonder what it has to do with monkeys though...
Ah japanese people...if only we would understand 1% of their thoughts....
| | |
| By Sonic_aka_T on March 08 2005, 14:46 | Funny, I actually liked them mad monkeys a lot! Amazing sound considering the chips that were used...
| | |

| Ah japanese people...if only we would understand 1% of their thoughts....
| I'd be happy just understanding 1% of their language!
| | |
| By poke-1,170 on March 08 2005, 14:56 | and sure the "noises" were made with the hardisk on/off command
yeah 1% would be nice....1% korean would be nice too...and 98% chinese,so you know what you're ordering
