On August 24 we started the MRC Oneliner Challenge. The goal? To create a game, demo, utility or song in only one line of MSX-BASIC code. The result? No less than 36 nice entries:
  1. Smiley Talk by Wolf_ and Sonic_aka_T features the famous '(^_^(' and ')o_O)' talking in a previously unkown, and to date incomprehensible language
  2. MSX4ever by Sonic_aka_T is a nice vertical scroller
  3. Enter the Matrix by Sonic_aka_T reminds us of the Wachowski brothers
  4. Fireplace by Lord Zett proved a nice fire demo doesn't have to take more than one line of MSX-BASIC code
  5. Naalala ka by Rowen Remis Iral was the only song that entered the competition
  6. C-Smile by Lord Zett filled the screen with smiles
  7. Seahorn by Marinke Snijders combined a graphical show with a nice sound effect
  8. Typin' Safari from Francesco Maida was the first game we received and needs quite a quick response
  9. Robotic brainfuck generator by Wolf_ lived up to its name
  10. 22 years ago A. Koene would have been proud of this, a drawing utility by Jonemaan did so as well
  11. Racer by David Heremans was quite a challenge for the non-cheaters
  12. Time 4MSX by Eli-Jean Leyssens was a very neat MSX2 only trick involving the MSX logo
  13. Thin Dizzy by Nyyrikki did not make us any thinner, but it certainly managed to make us dizzy
  14. Snake by David Heremans reduced a legendary computer game to only one line of BASIC
  15. Rakkasan by Eli-Jean R. Leyssens proved that wind, gravity and tiny landing pads don't always go together
  16. Simple Pong by KdL made us think of times long forgotten
  17. Break by Germán Gómez Herrera (who single handedly entered 17 entries to the competition) was a complete break-out clone for MSX
  18. Calc by Germán Gómez Herrera made us realize we should have paid more attention during algebra classes
  19. Drive by Germán Gómez Herrera added some features to (and removed the possibility to cheat from) David Heremans' Racer
  20. Fire X by Germán Gómez Herrera made us fire A's towards X's
  21. Letter by Germán Gómez Herrera put our typing skills to the test
  22. Liquid by Germán Gómez Herrera made us wish our roofs would remain waterproof for a while
  23. Fire art by Germán Gómez Herrera gave us some nice (yet slow) fireworks to look at
  24. Pixel by Germán Gómez Herrera was something A. Koene never could have handled
  25. PSG by Germán Gómez Herrera somehow always resulted in a tune that reminded us of a certain MSX game
  26. TXTproc by Germán Gómez Herrera brought text editing to a whole new level of simplicity
  27. Girigiri by KdL proved to be a neat multicolor "girandola" animation
  28. Catch key by HUR was another test for our responsiveness
  29. Grid by Yukio gave us the chance to check the alignment of our trusty old MSX monitors
  30. Bike by Germán Gómez Herrera made us wonder wheter Lance Armstrong lived inside our MSX
  31. Pickup by Germán Gómez Herrera was kind of like snake without the snake growing
  32. Quit by Germán Gómez Herrera made us realize that, in the end, you have nowhere to hide
  33. Shot by Germán Gómez Herrera proved to be the difficult version of Hyper Sports 2's skeet shooting was for amateurs
  34. Scroll by Germán Gómez Herrera was a nice vertical scroller
  35. Charedit by Germán Gómez Herrera brought us an easy way to corrupt the beautiful MSX character set
  36. Editspr by Germán Gómez Herrera turned out to be the most straightforward sprite editor ever
The MSX Resource Center team would like to thank all contestants for their inventive entries. In the near future we will announce who is going to judge all these entries, and who has won the magical 3-in-1 MSX pen. In the mean time, why don't you (MRC visitors) download all entries and tell us what you think of them?

By poke-1,170 on September 29 2005, 14:33
haha indeed ...the guy who came up with that should sit at home feeling very proud about his invention
Or do you think 2 people invented it? "OH yeah good ideä !!! PASTING YOU SAY? that would go sooo well with this
copy thing I just invented" etc
By konamiman on September 29 2005, 15:43
Would it be possible to have all entries available for donwload in one single compressed file?
By Gilneas2 on September 29 2005, 16:26
One file that is a disk image with all the *.BAS files and an Autoexec.BAS that functions as the loader

1. alsjbdjlsadb
2. adljhsajdsa
3. adljd
etc
Choose a one-liner >

Make the loader a one liner too
By wolf_ on September 29 2005, 16:58
* agrees with konamiman
By Edwin on September 29 2005, 18:52
That would indeed be good for the many lazy people.
By wolf_ on September 29 2005, 19:43
.. like konamiman ^_^
By djh1697 on September 29 2005, 20:19
Nestor got it right .... he should win a prize! Download in one file, better still a DSK image with a handy auto program to run each one?
By GhostwriterP on September 29 2005, 20:21
Real lazy people ask for a disk image.
By djh1697 on September 29 2005, 21:56
Nothing to do with been lazy.... just been practical!
By wolf_ on September 29 2005, 22:23

Here's a bonus entry, created in Bussum (not contending of course):
