MRC Scene Music Remake Challenge

Challenges - MRC Scene Music Remake Challenge

 Friday, December 23, 2005 - 00:59
 Submitted by: snout
 Topic: Challenges

More than a year ago, Wolf_ initiated this forum topic on our active MSX Forum, discussing whether or not it would be nice to re-arrange classic tunes originally composed by members of the MSX Community. It took a while, but gradually people became more enthusiastic about the concept, and the idea to make a challenge out of it arose. So, due to popular demand here it is: the MRC Scene Music Remake Challenge. Apart from that, anything goes!

What's the deal? Well... between now and February 5th, 2006, you can join this challenge by sending in one or more remakes of MSX Scene tunes composed on any equipment you like. You can use original MSX audio chips (PSG/SCC/MSX-MUSIC etc.), but are also allowed to use every synthesizer, piano, guitar or any other instrument you can get your hands on. Just as long as you re-arrange a song which was originally composed by a member of the MSX Community. This means that remakes of songs originally featured in commercially released MSX games, as well as remixes of scene tunes, can not compete in this challenge. Furthermore, you are not allowed to remake songs you have once written yourself.

Of course, you can win a nice prize by joining this challenge, being an MSX T-shirt or a chiptune CD composed by BeepBoy from Japan. You can send your finished entries in mp3 format (192kbps preferred) to smr@msx.org. Please do include a small description on the equipment you used and how you created the remake. The challenge is opened until February 5th, 23:59 CET. Happy composing!

Talking of MRC competitions: any news on the MRC Oneliner Competition? Has a jury been appointed/assembled yet?

By snout on December 23 2005, 01:44
yup, although we had planned for a surprising name, we did not manage to get the person we had in mind on this one... the MRC team are currently rating the entries themselves. Expect results in the near future!

whot person, snout?

By poke-1,170 on December 23 2005, 15:46
Anyhoo, some people from the NYC gameboyscene are interested in doing remixes as well.
But..where to pick tunes from? Should we at least point people to mp3's online here maybe,
so people can start making some covers? I don't mind sending people music if they like, but there's just an awaful lot. I wouldn't know how outsiders could join in then. \And I think enough outsiders like doing it,so... thoughts?
