MSX Around the world contest

MSX Resource Center - MSX Around the world contest

 Tuesday, November 19, 2002 - 13:04
 Submitted by: snout
 Topic: MSX Resource Center

Official sources recently confirmed that over 5 million MSX computers were sold world-wide. Our website statistics show that the visitors of our site come from all over the world. Knowing this we decided to start a small contest called 'MSX Around the world'. You can contribute to this contest by taking a picture of an MSX computer (or a hardware/software product that is clearly MSX-related) on a - preferrably recognizable - location somewhere on our globe. After that, mail the picture to atw@msx.org and include the following information:
  • Your full name
  • Your member-name at msx.org
  • The country you're from
  • The location where you took the picture
  • The date you took the picture
Submissions will be added to a picture-gallery on our website. In the second quarter of 2003, we will announce the pictures that are nominated to win the prices. The best 3 pictures will be rewarded! Keep track on msx.org for more details on this contest. Suggestions for pictures are: an MSX... in front of the Eiffel tower, in the London metro, at Akihabara, in the Nevada desert, ... be creative! Everyone is allowed to send in 3 pictures.

Only 5 million!?!?!

I don't think so... I think there are at least 10 million MSX machines in the world!
But active users are less.

Well. Sources are ASCII and the MSX Association, so I think 5 million will do. This is still a huge ammount for a computer of the eighties.

Yes, maybe this is an official number. But think about C64: they said that there are 40 million C64 in the world. So, don't you think that MSX machines are at least 1/4 of C64s?

what's more important: when will you send in your contribution, Enrico?

Are you talking about photos of MSX in Venice?
By snout on November 19 2002, 14:52
great idea! Don't let your MSX fall into the water though

Hmm.. As I have heard (and read in MSX magazines) there were 5.000.000 MSX`es sold in JAPAN, and about a million of them were TurboR`s. So if you add other countries to that sum (USSR, Arabian Emirates, The Netherlands etc.) I`m sure you`ll end up at around 10mill. Anyway... will try to find a pretty snowy landmark in Norway, and an icey TurboR

Ok, this one comes directly from MSX association "MSX was manufactured from 1983 to 1991 in piles in upgrade, and, finally sold 5 million sets all over the world."

by the way, the MSX Resource Center is not responsible for any damage to MSX computers

Anyway, its a really nice challenge, i agree..
Sure there are not 10 millions MSX in France
