MSX Club Groningen announce first meeting

Fairs & Meetings - MSX Club Groningen announce first meeting

 Saturday, June 25, 2005 - 03:00
 Submitted by: snout
 Topic: Fairs & Meetings

Yes, you have read it correctly the first time. The newly founded MSX Club Groningen are to hold their first MSX user meeting in three weeks, on Sunday July 17th, 2005 in Groningen, The Netherlands. Readers of our active MSX forum could already have seen it coming in this forum thread.

MSX Club Groningen intend to hold an MSX meeting for the modern MSX users from the Northern regions of the Netherlands (and beyond) every third Sunday of every odd month. The meetings of 2005 will thus be held on July 17th, September 18th and November 20th in wijkcentrum "De Karre", Floresplein 19-D, Groningen. On their Dutch website you can find more information on the computer club and the route to the location of its meeting. Entrance to this first meeting of this new MSX computer club is entirely free.

Whilst being a new MSX club, MSX Club Groningen was founded by two ex-members of MSX Gebruikersgroep Groningen, an active MSX computerclub of the 1980s and early 1990s, where the Dutch MSX Group Flying Bytes (Not Again!, MEG, Bananenvla, Move the house) found its roots. MSX Club Groningen founders Erik Huizinga (Serico) and Sander Zuidema (snout) hope the meetings will increase the activity of Dutch MSX users in general and developers in specific and hope many active MSX users will come and have a look at the first meeting.

But why in Groningen... it's a long way from people from Limburg to go there
By BiFi on June 25 2005, 08:27
wow, do you still have time for more MSX related responsibilities, snout?

great initiative though...
By Abi on June 25 2005, 10:47
Great!! Congrats Eric and Sander.
Nice to see there is another new MSX group in the Netherlands.
We got now 3 active MSX Clubday-meetings in different locations over the Netherlands: Hoorn, Marienberg and Groningen.
We only need a new location in the south

By SolidEric on June 25 2005, 11:15
Great!!! Congrats Erik and Sander, after cancelling Oss and Tilburg we need another one! I agree that we need one in the south now!
By Serico on June 25 2005, 12:12
SolidEric: The MSX Club Groningen is a regulare club of course with 6 meetings a year. Oss and Tilburg were fairs so you cannot really compare them or say it's a replacement. But i think the start of our new MSX club is going to be a great boost to the dutch MSX scene. And the start of another club OR fair in the south would be also great of course. MSX IS ALIVE

I wouldn’t mind an MSX-club in middle-netherlands as well .
By djh1697 on June 25 2005, 20:22
I had a MSX-UK Midlands meetimng with Robsy last week, we shared coffee! I dont know know of any UK MSXers in my area.

Maybe I'll start the "Leicester & district MSX user group" (LADMUG?) ?
By Jorito on June 25 2005, 20:57
Cool! A new MSX club! At it's even at walking distance for me

Great stuff, I'll visit the first meeting for sure, and I'll probably be crazy enough to sign up as a member
By Serico on June 25 2005, 23:57
Hi Jorito, great that you're coming to the meeting and even better that you're becoming a member!
I know there are a lot more MSX-ers in the north: who's next?
By snout on June 26 2005, 14:42
Thanks for all the reactions so far, guyz! Just keep them coming . Wolf & Abi: I assume you guyz will be coming over as well? And who else is planning to come over and have a look at the MSX-CG on July 17th?
By Jorito on June 26 2005, 15:31
I trying to get (part of) Team Bomba there as well, linking a so called bombameet to a visit of the meeting in Groningen. Quite a good excuse to finally have a bombameet again, I'd say

I guess when Legacy goes, I go as well.. if not, we'll see. We need more info on what there will be.. I'm not really interested in some local computerclubmeeting with a few oldies playing old gamelistings from MCM or studying Dynamic Publisher or fiddling around with a 8280+camera, while others play Bingo to win a 10-pack of 3.5" disks or a box o' chocolats. I'm just describing some typical small-club-things eh.. (ok, exagerating perhaps ^_^)

<Basil> " Manuel: this miss Fawlty, this smack on the head *pts* " </Basil>
By snout on June 26 2005, 20:08
Wolf: I was looking forward to play bingo with you!

Seriously, MSX Club Groningen is a modern MSX club for the modern and active MSX user. Not as development-focused as Devcon, but it's bound to have a similar spirit. In essence (in no particular order whatsoever) Socializing, development, a bit of gaming and demonstration of recent hardware and software. I intend to bring my Obsonet cartridge along on the first meeting, for instance However, it's the visitors who make the meetings. If someone want to play a game or just have a little chat, he can. If people feel like developing new projects together: please do so! We've been thinking of doing programming or game competitions, but don't want to do the same every time. Attending the first MSX-CG meeting will, of course, be an excellent opportunity to let us know what you think should happen on the MSX-CG meetings of the future

Count me in on this one dudes...enschede represent

By poke-1,170 on June 27 2005, 01:46
....though I would like to know how you can capture video through an 8280 without having it blink between captured frames and cam feed...
(and let a cam run through screen 5 or something "realtime",so your input gets messed up...can that be done in basic?)
By Accumulator on June 28 2005, 14:30
F#ck, D#mn, Sh#t...

I just moved from Groningen to Amsterdam.... Not even a month ago...

Why God, Why????
By snout on June 28 2005, 14:38
Sounds like a good time to visit some old friends in Groningen
By Latok on July 02 2005, 19:02
I'm still a member of the board of 'MSX Computer Club Groningen', we never officially liquidated ourselves It's blasphemy calling us a Tilburg like 'Gebruikersgroep', I really would have liked continuation of the 'MSX CC Groningen' name, but anyway, this is still very very cool. I will be there, the 17th of July!
By Serico on July 17 2005, 20:26
MSX Club Groningen wants to thank all the visitors of the meeting today!
It was a great MSX-day and the response was really overwhelming.
We hope everybody enjoyed it as much as we did and we are looking forward to see you all on the next meeting of MSX Club Groningen!
