MSX T-Shirt on Dutch national television

MSX in the Media - MSX T-Shirt on Dutch national television

poke-1,170 did it again! After getting some MSX action into a Lenny Kravitz music video he managed to get MSX on Dutch national television. Yesterday, he was one of the guests in the late-night talk show De Staat van Verwarring on Nederland 3. He was there to talk about the Commodore 64 orchestra, a project that he, Jeroen Tel and Rob Hubbard initiated. This weekend, the orchestra performed various popular C64 game tunes on the Noorderslag festival. Reasons enough to get him to the TV studio, but not without an MSX shirt on! Over here you can watch the entire TV show. The item is right at the beginning of the show.

A winning nominee I'd say ..

Still it leaves me with the thought whether the same could be done for old MSX game music. I don't think we're short on music, in fact Konami runs circles around any C64 music. Yet, the C64 sold more than MSX, and I think the current Dutch C64 scene is still bigger than the current Dutch MSX scene. The last thing you want is an orchestra and only about 20 visitors

yeah I guess the only thing where you could pull off a project like this would be in japan itself.
Also I guess the 64 benefits from having the excellent sid chip as compared to the AY one.
All other msx related soundchips are add-ons, and those lucky enough to have fmpac built in are
such small numbers that you can't say it's universal for every msx user.
I also think lack of sales in the US are realy an important miss for the popularity of MSX,
same with england I guess... so it would work in japan, not here

Hmmm, kinda makes me interested to hear some more, because I really liked the the small piece they aired. And as for the MSX T-shirt: Coolness all the way
For the rest: Too bad about the look-us-being-NOT-funny-vpro-shit :-(
By Latok on January 18 2007, 14:16
Agreed tfh, they were not funny at all. They are trying to be 'vpro' but they are not.
By manuel on January 18 2007, 17:04
Yeah, I agree. They sucked, but poke ruled
By poke-1,170 on January 18 2007, 17:06
well I did like that pseudo quiz at the escalators,
but for interviewing people it was pretty damn lame.

By [D-Tail] on January 18 2007, 23:44
Congrats! Coolness!
By POISONIC on January 18 2007, 23:49
stupid tought maybe but hey how does xak and ys music sound played by the c64 orcesta
?
By wolf_ on January 19 2007, 00:00
How should anyone know? They never played those tunes. Check here for samples of the Ricciotti ensemble. Superimpose that on Xak and Ys, and that's what it sounds like.
By poke-1,170 on January 19 2007, 14:24
XAKbernoid 2 and YSternational karate you mean ?
By 4play on January 21 2007, 20:36

By Unicorn on January 23 2007, 22:09
Great effort! Me, flashing a MSX T-Shirt on TV would be GREAT as well! Too bad mine got lost in the mail...
By snout on January 23 2007, 23:40
Unicorn - we should be able to fix that. I'm away quite a lot these days due to personal stuff, but send a mail to snout@msx.org and I'll get back to it a.s.a.p.
