RetroPC.net is the first to report about MSX World 2005 at their website. According to RetroPC over 1.000(!) MSX fans visited MSX World 2005. The report contains 20 photo's with detailed description. You may need translate though.

WHY WHY we can't see the faces? Is the fair ILLEGAL or inmoral??
By SeD_NcL on May 08 2005, 21:19
Yeah what is that all about???
By Bart on May 08 2005, 21:21
I don't have a clue I think the author thought it would be funny. Not everyone has his face covered though. See picture 6; the chief-editor of MSX Magazine, Mr Sato.

And to translate a webpage, this link is better :

http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/

Choose the second option and enter the address of the site to be translated - first option is for translation from English to Japanese ; second option is for translation from Japanese to English
By mars2000you on May 08 2005, 22:06
If I understand the Excite translation, the visages on the pictures are hidden because only the press photographs had this special authorization

In one way, it means that it was a great event for Japan .... probably more in the next days on the official sites

Btw, MRC is not an official site ... so, pictures with visages only on Basiz site ???

By mars2000you on May 08 2005, 22:08
oops : Bazix (and not Basiz)
By Bart on May 08 2005, 23:00
Don't expect pictures at the Bazix website Snout took pictures, don't know if he took pictures for a MRC report but I assume so. He's asleep atm (8 hours time difference ), so can't ask him atm

Btw, I disagree on the webpage translator being better. In my experience translating small parts of text turns out to be more accurate then whole webpages in once.

The site itself about smiley faces:
"To the people who visited from overseas WEB sites:
We considered rights of portrait, and put the filter on the face of the person who excluded "Public figure" that had appeared in media in the past."
By Bart on May 08 2005, 23:25
Funny, he just added that sentence RetroPC reads MRC too, it seems

Visages not scrambled !

So, attitude of RetroPC.net has no sense
By Bart on May 09 2005, 16:57
RetroPC explained why the faces are covered in an email to us. It seems to be a polite thing to do in Japan when you don't have expressed permission to show faces. The following links should explain:

akibablog4.on.arena.ne.jp/2005-05-09-101.html
www.cute.or.jp/~makuchan/wore.htmlp

Thanks to RetroPC for clearing that up
By mars2000you on May 09 2005, 17:15
So, difference of culture ...

Good explanation indeed, but it seems to be the first time that such "rule" (the term is inconvenient) appears after a MSX fair ....

Whoa! He's so small compared to that screen!
By snout on May 10 2005, 03:04
And compared to Bernard, for that matter ^_^.

Indeed, I took a -shitload- of pictures during my stay in Japan. It will take me quite some time to sort them all out and I think I'm going to have to make a selection, as my photoshoot will be combined with the photoshoot of ag0ny and Bernard. To give you an indication: I already have about 1.5 gigabyte of 3megapixel pictures on my harddisk as we speak. Cheers
