 Topic: MSX Revival

It has been a while since we reported about the MSX Revival, but behind the scenes a lot must have been going on as now we are faced with a lot of revival news all at once. Things looked a bit confusing at first, but by now we think we have sorted things out and are ready to bring you an overview of 'current events':
  • The MSX trademark has moved from MSX Association to the MSX Licensing Corporation (source). MSX Association still seem to be going strong though. Today, an announcement on their website revealed that there might be a new generation of 1chipMSX computers. Also, they are planning to celebrate the 25th anniversary of MSX by holding/sponsoring events around the world. The 25th anniversary event of TNI is one of them.
  • Together with D4 Enterprise, the MSX Licensing Corporation have finally released the first MSX game in the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console. After a long wait since the initial announcement the honor of being the very first game to be released in the Virtual Console goes to Compile's classic vertical shooter Aleste. For now, the game is only available in Japan though.
  • D4 Enterprise have opened up a Project MSX website where 20 1chipMSXes can be won by writing an essay about your (best) personal experiences with MSX. Again, only for the Japanese.
What all these developments (and especially the shift of the MSX trademark) mean for us in the long run, or for Bazix in particular, is still hard to say. MSX Association is likely to reveal more information during the 25th anniversary event. When asked, Bazix confirmed there will be a statement from their side soon as well. So: more news on all of this soon!

Thank you for the information. MSX Association and MSX Licensing Corporation are going to work together in the future? I surely hope so?

MSX Licensing Corporation, MSX Association, D4 Enterprise, Bazix,... who's next?

More and more companies but I'm still waiting for a "Western Edition" of the OCM (or now the OCM2 ).
I'm a bit tired

Who cares who owns the (tm) for "MSX" in Japan? Well, may be Japanese users, but certainly not westerners.

As of Western edition of OCM, check caro/KdL/HRA work on DE1, including the extension board for cartridge/joystick ports board.

I don't like this environment. What is the current situation of the MSX? Why this change of the MSX trademark now? Why three companies are operating into the MSX? What are their function exactly? I don't understand anything. Why this changes suddenly????

I suspect that the licencing division is created with things like the VC for the Wii in mind.

This seems to answer most of your questions: MSX Association European site
