MSXdev '04 - Status update

Games & Demos - MSXdev '04 - Status update

Ramones and Sutchan have teamed up as 'Kralizec' to create an MSXdev entry: Kralizec Battle Tetris, an excellent Tetris game for two players. Both the controls, graphics and programming techniques (the game is just 8KB) are well worth having a look at. You can download it from the MSXdev'04 status page

Don't forget that you can still join MSXdev'04 and/or donate some prizes! The MSXdev '04 competition closes on July 31st.

The most playable tetris EVER!!... great job guys!!
By Thom on April 23 2004, 10:46
First I thought "hell no, not another Tetris clone... can't they think of something more original?". But I have to retract that thought. It's really, really nice. Compliments.

100% pure playability. A great MSXdev'04 entry!. I hope Krazilec boys keep on working like this and bring us more MSX1 releases. Congratulations for the game, it rocks!.

E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T! And for MSX1!
What a pity it's only for 2 players.
Please, make the same game also for one player and we have the best MSX Tetris ever!
By Ivan on April 24 2004, 11:28
Moreover, this game with a few options more and nice ending scenes it could perfectly become a commercial game (and for MSX1!).
By GuyveR800 on April 24 2004, 21:51
Yeah, too bad tetris is a copyrighted game concept...
By Ivan on April 24 2004, 22:28
If no-one pursued Zemina -amongst many others- in the eighties/early nineties, I doubt that they are going to pursue now "Krazilec" for an excellent Tetris clone ^_^

Too bad the article itself does not exist anymore, but it was about the owners of the tetris copyrights chasing almost all tetris clones around (even the amateur clones). Imagine namco doing that for pac-man!

You've said it: "...it WAS about...". I guess this means that now they aren't pursuing anybody...

Anyway, remember that even in the eighties/early nineties (when the Internet was unknown for almost everybody) there were companies copying ideas from other companies and no-one pursued them. I remember seeing clones of Arkanoid for almost every system (including MSX).

Did Konami pay Sean Connery or Richard Crenna for their stellar appearance in Metal Gear 2 - Solid Snake? I really doubt it.

I'm against piracy.
But we all must agree that it's impossible to pursue everybody copying ideas from others, specially when we refer to all the retro-stuff that you can find in the Net (clones, remakes,...) made by thousands of enthusiasts.
By Grauw on April 25 2004, 03:07
Zemina was a Korean company - and as it happens at that time copyright laws and author's rights were pretty much nonexistant in Korea. So there was no legal means to enforce their copyrights.

So, sorry, not a very good argument .

Anyways, no-one was saying that the makers will get legal consequences out of this. But, stating that "it could perfectly become a commercial game (and for MSX1!)" is nonsense, because it is indeed a copyrighted game concept, and that alone would disqualify it. Well, unless you acquire the nessecary rights, ofcourse, but I somehow doubt that's cheap.

p.s. The Tetris Corporation (or whatever their name is) its policy is still the same.
p.s.2. Sean Connery in MG2?? Where?!

Ofcourse, but you suggested their game could become a commercial game. Going commercial is simply impossible without a license. I was only responding to that.

@Grauw: The picture used for Big Boss is obviously a picture of sean connery.
By GuyveR800 on April 25 2004, 15:24
Indeed it looks like him, but it's not a picture, it's a drawing. Big difference. You can't copyright facial features.
By BiFi on April 25 2004, 16:25
about MG2: and Petrovich Madnar looks like Albert Einstein, so it seems to me.
By GuyveR800 on April 25 2004, 16:48
I thought we covered all of the lookalikes in a forumthread already once...
By KNM on April 26 2004, 19:41
Woah! Thatīs a great job from Kralizec,as always :-D.Excellent demonstration of making a game with only 8kbytes and an exploding playability!A must !!!!
