From MSX user Imanok comes the next finished MSXdev'07 entry! Last year Imanok competed in the MSXdev'06 contest with Traffic Jam, this year he's given us Txupinazo!, an action game. The game is based on the famous running of the bulls hold annually in Pamplona from the 7th to the 14th of July, during the festival of Saint Fermin. Run fast and dodge other participants and obstacles or you will get gored by the bulls! It comes as 32KB ROM, ROM label and instruction manual are available as well. Happy gaming!

HAHAHA! Got a smile on my face playing this. Thanks! Very Slapstick.
By wolf_ on December 25 2007, 14:51
hehe, it's like RNFF: a local cultural happening involving running, lotsa bullshit, and small and large eyes, transformed into a fun game..

What was used to make the (FM-)music, btw?
By Vampier on December 25 2007, 17:07
This is a fun game good graphics and a nice gameplay.
By Patsie on December 25 2007, 23:06
*** GAME STORY ***
You are a young Texan cowboy called Patsie.

I've never been to Texas in my life!!
By Imanok on December 25 2007, 23:53
Thanks!

@wolf_: Carlo made the music with MuSICA

@Patsie: This story takes place in the future... the main character is your son . Talking seriously, there's a joke behind the name, because 'Patsie' sounds very similar to 'Patxi' a very common name in the Basque Country (where the game takes place).
By Patsie on December 26 2007, 14:28
A very simple yet fun game to play. It looks great too for an MSX1 game. And I'm glad my son plays the main character
By spl on December 26 2007, 18:44
As you know I have lived in Pamplona near all of my life and now for example, I am writing you from there . This game is outstanding.
By dvik on December 26 2007, 19:00
This is a great game. Its not often you laugh when playing an MSX game. The graphics is very nice and the music too. This is imo the first msxdev game that really compares to old Konami classics like circus charlie, pippols and others. Great job, best finished entry so far

wolf_ , a new game inspired by "psilocybin"?

PS: Now the correct URL of Pamplona Council is http://www.pamplona.es/verPagina.asp?idPag=1&idioma=5
By Imanok on December 26 2007, 22:38
I'm glad you like the game and really looking forward to see what you all are preparing for the contest. I just can't wait until sunday!
By DemonSeed on December 27 2007, 00:31
I had some fun with this game.

Also I think it's a big plus that the game sounds good/the same with either only PSG or PSG + FM.

Even the envelopes / timbres of the instruments correspond, and that's great!

The whistle is L.O.U.D., though!

BTW The "bump" of the bull sounds more "impressive" with PSG sound, I think. Must be relative or smth.
By wolf_ on December 27 2007, 13:52
but uhm.. can someone explain with phonetics how to pronounce that title? (the TXU, that is..)
By Imanok on December 27 2007, 18:14
It's pronounced just like 'CHU'.

The word is spelled 'chupinazo' in spanish and 'txupinazo' in euskera, but both are pronounced the same way.
By ro on December 28 2007, 08:38
very cool, nice game. Fluid gameplay. Bit simple tho, I got it to round 5 with 1 live and got bored....
nice music and gfx tho
By Imanok on December 28 2007, 22:28
ro, there's a hard mode for experienced players

What happened to your game, wolf_ ??
By wolf_ on December 31 2007, 02:31
Too many sudden/unexpected bugs, mainly music-related, and since music is actually one of the cornerstones of this game, and since the maps were not tested (ahum ^_^, none of the levels could actually be finished!), we decided to finish it, rather than submit a game full o' bugs. We'll try to finish it this week, and next week we'll release it. Note that the game really becomes a gem! I'm rather fond of all the gfx and the music. Esp. in the first part of the end sequence, the gfx, the music and the knowledge of what you're doing truly creates a synergy there! The humor didn't leave btw, some places look hilarious.. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, we'll try fixing stuff this week.. if so, next week it'll be released!

(no, it's not RNFF 2 )

For non-spanish speakers, the syllable 'CHU' sounds like 'TOO'.

An aproximation to English phonetics for 'txupinazo':

TOO-PEE-NAH-THO

Anyway, there is no exact match for both English and Spanish pronounciation, specially for the 'Z' letter which sounds similar to 'TH'.

GREAT GAME !! And there are a ending after 7 round !

GREAT MUSIC too ! Really is a funny game ! I like it
By Yukio on January 01 2008, 00:52
Cool game ...
It is animated and there is some humor.

Now, where are the animal activists to protect the mammals !?

By Imanok on January 01 2008, 15:09
I promise no animal has been harmed during the game creation... but I can't say the same about the running people
By cax on January 02 2008, 10:15
Funny, very playable, and I liked the music and the game's atmosphere.
Looking to one side but running to the other is a great catch !
By MrSpock on January 02 2008, 22:18
Maybe spelling it in katakana? ;-)
Something like Chi-yu-pi-na-...hmmm... something for "ZO"?
