Few minutes before the MSXdev'06 contest deadline, the Dutch MSX group TNI has submitted the last game that enters the competition. It is called Pointless Shooting and it is a never ending shooter (well, till you press the ESC key). You can find the game, that comes in a 32kB ROM file, on the MSXdev website.

The concept is actually quite interesting. It's too bad that the only increase in difficulty after level 20 appears to be to the shooting and not to the navigation. And since it's not that hard to find a strategy for dodging the bullets you could play this game until the scoreboard can't handle any more. Of course, it's not really practical to do, but if navigation would become impossible at a high level, then the peak score would always be the result of skill instead of a possible simple strategy.

Actually, how do you play this game?

Shooting and time gives you points. Getting hit and hitting the blue objects loses you points. Try to get he highest score. Which means getting the most points before it starts getting so difficult that you can only lose points after that.
