Manbow 2 not to be released by TNI

Games & Demos - Manbow 2 not to be released by TNI

 Thursday, December 07, 2006 - 23:22
 Submitted by: snout
 Topic: Games & Demos

TNI have just announced the will not release the upcoming - and highly anticipated - shooter Manbow 2. The news comes unexpectedly, within 3 months after TNI announced to be releasing Manbow 2.

Development of the game is to be continued by the core development team, RenovatiO, who have impressed the entire MSX community with the high quality level of game demos on fairs and YouTube, especially since it is the first MSX production they are to release. 2006 seems to be a year with ups and downs for TNI , as they had to withdraw their MSXdev'06 entry earlier this year as well.

**UPDATE**
According to the TNI website Norakomi and NoZeMSX both still TNI members and the Space Manbow 2 project is on schedule, fortunately!

Perhaps the site needs yet to be updated, but it's unclear whether norakomi and other SM2 ppl are still TNI members ...
By ARTRAG on December 08 2006, 09:03
And so, what is the final result ?
Who developed (if anyone) the game?
Can someone tell the full story behing MB2 ?
Maybe it is as interesting as the game

The remark on the TNI page sounds a bit sour.

By Grauw on December 08 2006, 11:45
I wasn’t really there at the time, but I’ve read the logs and all, and talked to some people.

There was a situation that built up due to prior events and a lack of communication which in combination with some rash decisions caused the current situation to arise. I don’t want to go into detail, but my personal expectation is that this news can be retracted soon. It would certainly be a shame if not.

Hope that the game will be released
By chaos on December 08 2006, 16:14
This doesn't really come as a surprise. Let's hope it doesn't have any consequences for the future of the project.

By Grauw on December 08 2006, 16:46
Chaos - shut up.
By Grauw on December 08 2006, 16:57
The word is that there were some problems, which are now hopefully resolved. Norakomi is still a member of TNI, but amongst others because of copyright reasons with regard to the game’s content (which was one of the problems) the game will not be released by TNI. Fore more info see the updated statement at www.tni.nl.

p.s.:
  • “Development of the game is to be continued by the core development team, RenovatiO” - such information was never given.
  • “2006 seems to be a year with ups and downs for TNI” - this is not a ‘down’ for TNI.

It would be appreciated if msx.org was a little less ‘creative’ in its news…

while I'm not the newsposter, I say "nah.."

# “Development of the game is to be continued by the core development team, RenovatiO” - such information was never given.

With such little information on the tni website yesterday evening, this seemed a logical guess.

# “2006 seems to be a year with ups and downs for TNI” - this is not a ‘down’ for TNI.

First join MSXdev'06, then cancel, then cooperate on SM2, then abort .. that's up/down/up/down'ish if I may say so..

But, i'll leave it up to snout to update things or not in the newspost..

btw, if the (c) issue is the reason why TNI can't release the game (understandable, since tni is officially a company), then I wonder why this wasn't thought-over 3 months ago?
By Bart on December 08 2006, 17:33
Grauw, telling people to "shut up" is a moderator's job. If you disagree with Chaos, send him an email or send us a complaint about his reaction. You must be pretty ignorant if you didn't expect criticism, after all this is the MSX community...

Anyway, there's nothing creative about the newspost. I understand you don't like the news, being part of TNI, but that's something different. We post about all news, whether it's good news or bad news. Maybe you could submit a newspost including more details so that we can post about SM2 more accurately? I'm still waiting for another email from you about the "denied" messages... I guess my previous request to email us instead of complain / suggest things in reactions hasn't had any effect.

I never knew about that until now.
By Grauw on December 08 2006, 17:47
wolf_: just a small pinch . But it was strange to see that msx.org already ‘knew’ that RenovatiO was re-erected from the dead, and would continue development with its old team. I don’t think a news site should be guessing without at least indicating so. As for the up/down, let’s just say that I am a little sensitive to the wording used by MRC.

"btw, if the (c) issue is the reason why TNI can't release the game (understandable, since tni is officially a company), then I wonder why this wasn't thought-over 3 months ago?"
The amount of (c) was initially underestimated, and TNI has been balancing on maybe-we-can-maybe-we-can’t. Indeed TNI is a company and that made it more difficult.

Bart: sure as hell I can tell chaos to shut up . I heard a little too many cynical comments from him.

With regard to the ‘creativity’, see above. I was surprised to read that MRC knew more of the situation than we did (clearly they do not - they made it up). And as for details, this is as much as we have to say about it, I do not think any more would be valuable news. I think my explanations in the reactions to this post have been sufficient? As for the post content, the main point is pretty accurate - SM2 will not be released by TNI. I’m not suggesting that the text has to be modified, except maybe for the RenovatiO part.

About the ‘denied’ messages, I don’t know why you bring this up now as it seems to be entirely beside the topic, but I arranged with snout to meet on ICQ sometime. However, I haven’t seen him yet when I was online, and as a matter of fact since about two weeks ago the problems have fortunately disappeared.

Grauw: What are you talking about? cynical comments? I haven't posted here for months! and I'm not even being cynical.
You can't deny TNI has a certain past. I know TNI has great programmers, but they're hard coorporate with.

Anywayz, I don't care who's releasing MB2. I just hope it will be released someday!!
By Bart on December 08 2006, 18:32
Unfortunately my addition (the **update**) made this post a so called 'big post' (yes, it uses word count). Not really necessary I think, but alas. Anyway, I'm glad you (grauw) admit that you are a little sensitive about this, that explains your reactions.

By Grauw on December 08 2006, 20:03
Bart: of course. My reactions always make sense (if you think about it long enough).
Chaos: I don’t think that the history wrt GLC was only TNI’s fault. But never mind me, I’m moody today. Sorry for that.

Bart: It doesn't use word count! It uses character count! Breaking at the big evil number ^_^

Uh? RenovatiO was dead? Since when?
By manuel on December 08 2006, 20:32
So, what group will release Manbow 2 then? Not TNI, not RenovatiO?
By wolf_ on December 08 2006, 20:38
Konami :-)
By Huey on December 09 2006, 08:28
Or will it be redistributed via Woomb
By zett on December 09 2006, 08:57
The can't becourse of the (c).... Dhue!

By Grauw on December 09 2006, 12:29
I thought of some nice publisher names, like ‘Conami’, or ‘MSX’, or ‘White Label’ .
By wolf_ on December 09 2006, 16:12
Conami is funny, as it contains: "Con am I", which is probably the right title if one's releasing a game with a 'stolen' theme. ^_^
By ro on December 09 2006, 21:08
I'll nominate THAT as best comment for 2006, wolf!

anyhow, to bad. Hope SM2 will still see light next year.
By manuel on December 10 2006, 00:26
Actually, I just liked "RenovatiO"
By poke-1,170 on December 10 2006, 06:14
since those cool spanish people manage to cram new games on a cartridge,
could we expect manbow 2 to be a cartridge release as well ?

By sunrise on December 10 2006, 08:34
Waking up this morning I read this.
Again it is really amazing. It leads to an unfinished SM2 and will go the same way GLC did.
This is in my opion the real reason why Grauw is moody.
One of the reasons is -as I read correctly from Grauw- That TNI is a company. I think to know what is really going on. But I donot make guesses overhere.
Leaves the most cynical remarks as a) I still hopes it will finish b) The possible release on a cartridge -as much as I want that even to happen.
But now I am cynical
By Grauw on December 10 2006, 16:03
To all: whether or not Manbow 2 is released or not is not under discussion. As you can read on tni.nl, it will be released.

Thank you .
By Grauw on December 10 2006, 16:24
Ro, I don’t think wolf_’s last remark was that good…

Sunrise: "This is in my opion the real reason why Grauw is moody." I was moody because this situation arose in the first place, and frankly because this has nothing to do with anyone outside TNI. Not because I have bad hopes for the Manbow 2 project or norakomi’s membership of TNI. I nor anyone else ever claimed that the (c) issue was the only problem, but it was a pretty big problem nevertheless and also formed the basis of others, so it’s good that it has been taken care of. Also, I think we had a very good discussion that cleared up a lot of things which in my opinion should have been cleared up earlier.

Poke and sunrise: the release on cartridge, I don’t know what the other’s intentions are in that regard. I’m personally only superficially involved with Manbow 2, so your guess is as good as mine.

I hope sincerly you are right Grauw. But lately I have the feeling that all activity is running too slow and experiences in the past with software that is promised. Same to our intentions for Realms e.g. Everyone has still the good intentions but ...
And I think there is more ....
