On August 18th Konami re-released Metal Gear 1 for mobile phones. The re-release, based on the original MSX version of Metal Gear and directed by Hideo Kojima himself, turned out to be a great success. On October 1st the second part of the Metal Gear saga, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which has been an MSX exclusive game for more than 14 years, will become available for the Japanese Foma900 cellular phones as well.

Again, the game is being released simultaneously on the 3 largest mobile phone networks of Japan: iMode by NTT DoCoMo, AU by kddi and Vodafone G-Mode. On Konami's Tokyo Gameshow website we can see this game is to be considered as one of the most important games released for mobile phones in 2004. Needless to say this has lead to several occurances of MSX in the Media already, which have been added to our list of nominees.

When looking at the screenshots of the game we can clearly see that Konami has been replacing some of the pictures of game characters, which looked like familiar movie stars in the original MSX version.

Cool!
But they changed the portraits in the codec :/

Maybe we should port the portraits back and release a MG2 New Style

Also funny they advertise the "Graphical Opening demo"
An opening demo must be a new and exciting thing on a Mobile phone

Have you seen snake's face??... it's really cooler than the one in the MSX version..
By snout on September 22 2004, 19:36
It's more similar to the Playstation-Snake now, is it? I like the semi-moviestar-images of the MSX2 version a lot more, to be honest.
By GuyveR800 on September 22 2004, 21:55
Me too...
Besides, the Playstation Snake looks like a wimp!
By Imanok on September 23 2004, 09:04
I like the MSX moviestar characters a lot, but I've always thought snake looks too old in MG2...

Isn't snake in the MSX version of MGS2 'Zeke' from Tour of Duty ?!?! if you can remeber him...
By GuyveR800 on September 23 2004, 17:19
Yep! Terence Knox, IIRC...

By Grauw on September 25 2004, 20:33
The original Snake definitely looked cooler.

About the original Snake (from MG1)... he really looks like Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens,...)
By Imanok on October 28 2004, 09:13
Now I'm really sure about it!!..... take a look!!
