Nerlaska Studio, a Spanish company specialized in low cost games that has developed video games for PC, PlayStation 2 and mobile devices, enters the MSXdev'06 contest with an RPG (Role Playing Game) for MSX called Monster Hunter.

Monster Hunter is going to be a 1Mbit MegaROM supporting SCC and uses a turn based fighting system.

seems they know how to build games...
and SCC support...whoooei !
By ARTRAG on June 14 2006, 18:30
but they are professional game designers!!!

they can count on tons of projects for mobile phones
to be exploited for their game....

it is unfair!!!

The TMS limits are there for everyone, MSX1 is not exactly comparible with PS2, mobiles etc.

It's like comparing players @ darts... if you ask them, they'll say: 'we all have 3 darts to throw'..

one hundred and EIIIIIGHTYYYYY

unfair!!? :-)
My god ... code for MSX is not exactly the same as do for PC, Mobiles, PS2, etc.
I have needed to dedicate many hours for building all from zero!!! (i have started with this project 1'5 month ago)
Make the engine for the game (vdp, scc, psg, memory, etc.) including testing and reading forums and docs.
Make a tool for exporting compressed graphics (bitmap to screen2, bitmap to sprite)
Make a tracker tool for creating music with PSG + SCC and export compressed.
Make a linker for organizating the code and data inside a MegaROM file.
Make a map tile editor for creating the maps.
And i'm just preparing actor scripts, boss scripts and a lot of things for starting to implement the level design.
Really! it's very hard .. but .. i will get it sure!

well at least you have already the graphix

btw
are you going to release foe free all those nice tools?

By Huey on June 17 2006, 16:33
@nerlaska: Good luck. I don't know if it's unfair or not. (I think ARTRAG wasn't too serious). But it must help having made games in the past.

Making an RPG for MSXdev'06 is a realy big project. I hope you don't have to make too much compromises due to the deadline.

I'm having high hopes for this issue of the MSXdev as all projets seem 'first class' games.
If only they were made 15 years aqo.

then we'd own Konami and kick Hideo out of the lane
By ARTRAG on June 18 2006, 10:18
to make clear to everyone:

Nerlaska is absolutely entitled to join to msxdev

PS
I am sure they will present a very professional game

Yes, MSX friends!
I want to create a good RPG for MSX-1 and give some fun to the MSX community.
But ... it's a personal question with my mine
I started coding with a MSX-1 and .. in this time ... i had no Internet and nothing .. only my MSX-BASIC book of my VG8020.
I played to KnightMare and other games .. and .. my brain .. only wants to create a game .. but! it's very fustrating without documentation.
Well .. 18 years of time have passed .. and .. i have returned "to the past" for creating a MSX-1 game :-)
It's really fun!!
