It's the 14th already, high time for a new poll! Prior to presenting the new poll, let's have a look at the outcome of the short new-year's poll from
January. Which new year's resolutions would we wish our fellow MSX users to fulfill most of all? After 211 votes, here are the final results:
- Join an MSX competition with an entry 23.70%
- Undust their real MSX and start using it again 23.22%
- Make an MSX product outside any competition 22.75%
- Visit fairs and/or meetings 15.17%
- Something else 15.17%
The results are quite varied, but most people who voted would like to see challenge entries and new MSX products general.
The new poll is a normal one-month poll again. Over the years quite some hardware has been made for our MSX, such as the Graphics9000, the Moonsound, mass-storage interfaces, and even an MP3-player. Apart from these extensions, some people have many megabytes of memory installed, and have perhaps boosted their turbo-R up to 40MHz. In the 90's having such a system was great and getting new hardware was highly recommended. Yet in recent years, the role of these extensions and modifications is open to debate. The
MSXdev competitions focus on the bare MSX1, demos such as those from dvik and joyrex are trying to squeeze the last drop from the MSX1, screen 2 pattern drawing is in vogue and chip music seems to be enjoying a worldwide revival. Added to that, for the moment the Graphics9000 lacks software, the Moonsound has some support but it could enjoy some more. Unique turbo-R software is rare, and the Z380 never was a success. From a well expanded system to a bare system.. is it a trend? Should the MSX stay a retro machine or should it develop? This is what our new poll is about. It's up to you to decide on the meaning of the word
retro, vote wisely!
