Utilities - Pletter 0.5c1

From all round MSX developers XL2s comes a small update to their compression/decompression utility Pletter. With Pletter you can quickly reduce the size of a block of data, and unpack it again in your MSX applications. This is very convenient when, for instance, you want to squeeze a huge amount of repetitive graphics, music, code, scripts and other data to fit in small media such as ROMs.

I read the changes, but I would be interested to know how it improved. Some clarification?
By sjoerd on March 01 2008, 09:56
It's possible to include the original size, and the largest look back size is smaller (8000 somewhat instead of 16000 something, not sure if that is an improvement ), and the compressor is faster because it jumps over runs of the same byte when it looks for matches.

Does anyone have the older versions of pletter? I like 0.5b (I think) better because its possible to chose what mode to use. 0.5c doesn't seem to have that option (or did I miss it).
By sjoerd on March 05 2008, 08:32
You can choose the mode with pletter 0.4, which is still on the site.

Thanks, I'll take a look at 0.4.

Is it possible for you to provide 0.5b as a download as well? Or if someone have a complete zip with all the 0.5b files that would like to share it would work too. Unfortunately I removed my own copy of 0.5b from my hard drive.
