Portuguese, French and Russian translators wanted

MSX Resource Center - Portuguese, French and Russian translators wanted

 Saturday, March 12, 2005 - 01:25
 Submitted by: snout
 Topic: MSX Resource Center

Once again, the MSX Resource Center is looking for several dedicated volunteers who are willing to help out in offering the contents of the MSX Resource Center in several different languages. At the moment, our website already is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch.

The join our team form recently got us two dedicated volunteers who would really like to add two languages to this set: French and Russian. Both languages reach a large audience of people who are usually not too familiar with reading and/or writing English. We would therefore really like to offer our contents in French and Russian, but we need your help. Can you translate English to French or Russian? Don't hesitate and fill in that join our team form right now!

Last, but certainly not least, we are looking for people who want to help out in keeping the Portuguese MSX Resource Center up to date, as our main translators are currently suffering from lack of spare time and the amount of newsposts a day just keeps growing and growing. With more than 1,000 newsposts translated already, serving one of the biggest MSX communities in the world (the Brazilian), it would be a real shame if we could not keep the Portuguese MRC as up to date as it is now. So if you feel like translating English to Portuguese, all you have to do is fill in the join our team form.

Relevant link: Join the MRC team.

By Bart on March 12 2005, 01:27
which join our team form do you mean?
By DarQ on March 12 2005, 01:38
hmm, and how many of your visitors are french or russian?? just curious
By DarQ on March 12 2005, 01:40
oh, i forgot..
and how many potential new readers do you expect?

i'd like to know how many msx users there are in russia. but i have no idea.

By snout on March 12 2005, 01:43
I think you should have a look at these stats. Please not that the Spanish visitors are on the 2nd place, with 10.9% of the total amount of visitors... which was ~ 5% just before the launc of es.msx.org.

I don't know how many extra visitors the MRC will gain (time will tell, if enough translators apply ;P), what matters is that quite a lot of people will like the French and Russian MRCs.

And yes, the Japanese MRC is still on the wishlist ^_^
By Ivan on March 12 2005, 11:51
Before the launch of es.msx.org there was -exactly- a 7,8% visitors from Spain.
Now there there is a 10,9%, nearly a 40% more. To this percentages we should add visitors from South American countries.

For those of you that are considering joining the MRC as translators I can say that 2 active translators can mantain the site translated. So it isn't so difficult ^_^

No Arabic Translator Wanted

By Sonic_aka_T on March 12 2005, 16:58
Abdullah: You're welcome to translate the MRC to Arabic
By Algorythms on March 13 2005, 02:16
Maybe I should translate to Norwegian so Cig and Snake can read it
By Chardson on March 13 2005, 03:15
Well, I may help with the portuguese problem, but I need to know what knowledge are needed to do so. I know nothing about php, ftp and any other thing related to internet or those scripts that automates sites.

But if the only things needed are portuguese and english, I can join. And in about 2 years I may join english to jap . Also I can easely translate spanish to portuguese, but this I guess is not needed and almost every portuguese speaker can do.
By cax on March 13 2005, 10:23
I searched for "Yamaha MSX" on public russian forums and posted there message in Russian with call for translators.
Also I hope soon there will be some publication about it in a popular russian web magazine.
Let's see whether there is anybody in russian-speaking diaspora :-) willing to help us.
By Sonic_aka_T on March 13 2005, 18:03
Chardson: All that's really needed is that you're a native portuguese speaker (or of such a level) and understand enough English to translate the posts from English to Portuguese. You don't need any php skills or stuff like that, the site already has a fully implemented system. Basically all you need is your language skills and the will to help us a hand... Well, a computer connected to the internet would prolly be handy too Drop us a mail or click the Join our Team link if you think you would like to help us out...

http://cooler.irk.ru - the call for russian translators is already on-line.
Now let's wait.

What Nedstat calls "United States" in its "country of origin" table? I don't believe that 10% of MRC visitors come from a country were MSX is totally unknown...
By cax on March 14 2005, 06:12
adrcunha:

In Israel MSX was not sold, if I am not mistaken, but we have here more than 1,000,000 newcomers from ex-USSR, so I wouldn't say "MSX is completely unknown in Israel".
By Sonic_aka_T on March 14 2005, 15:10
adrcunha: Don't forget Metal Gear has really helped to put the MSX system on the scope in countries like the US. That's why we get the occasional MG question on the forums. Others might visit because they think they can score a download on the site. Also remember that some people will visit this site by accident, and since the US has a couple of million of not-so-web-savy internet users, this can add up

So I can do the job. If none join until the end of next week (it will be a big vacation here in Brazil, I will be out for the entire week), let me know at MSXBR-L or MSXALL or even MSX-RB lists. I will proudly join the team
By snout on March 16 2005, 00:50
Thanks Chardson! I plan to contact all the people who reacted so far tomorrow. Things look bright on the Russian and Portuguese side. French MSX fans, don't be shy!
By cax on March 24 2005, 16:08
If things really look bright, then let's start.
Translators wait for your command, sir.
By snout on March 24 2005, 16:16
You're completely right, cax. Ladies and gentleman: preparations for ru.msx.org will start this evening (it will take a while before the thing goes public, thoug )...

As for the French: Don't be shy, being a translator at the MRC is really cool!
By msxgamesbox on March 24 2005, 22:39
Nice to see the russian project moving... I guess the french one will need some more time, but I keep hope, that a few people will show up (positive discussions but with 'buts')... and it was no luck that UniversMSX went down the day before the annoucement (it is being put back on http://universmsx.msxgamesbox.com/Forum but the full database was lost... the domain name universmsx.com is currently in bad hands and its wait and see if it can be put back live quickly)
By snout on March 24 2005, 22:44
I hope you'll solve the problems around universmsx website quickly! The fr.msx.org project is not 'down the drain' yet... patience is gold
