Yesterday I was toying a bit with our upcoming Polka2 (heavily under construction), prolly a version 0.001 if one needs to attach a version anyway. But what it does so far:
- msx1 palette
- msx2 palette
- g9k 16c palette (5bit)
- g9k 64c palette (5bit)
- tile image editor (sc2 style)
- bitmap image editor (square pixels like sc5, high pixels like sc7, wide pixels like one of those g9k modes), and custom width+height
- user comments for palettes and images
- draw, with or without brush (and brushes can be created by yourself) *
- bresenham line *
- rect *
- bucket fill *
- undo with history
- overlay zoom editor
* also during zooming in (global and overlay)
I think you can safely assume that P2 will eventually do what you want from such a tool..

It's easy use Polka? I download it time ago and I found it confusing interface.
What you found confusing about P1 is the fact that there was no button hint. Also, it was made by me, about 7 years ago.. when I was toying with Blitzplus for only a year or something..
P2 is entirely different (coded by Edwin, using GTK), a more conventional OS-GUI. Yet it'll have a lot of keyboard shortcuts to speed up editing.
What do you think about GrafX2? I find it very easy to use yet powerful. But I must admit that I am a former Deluxe Paint II user and fan!
I saw it days ago and I think it's strange. Has complete options? rolling, Turn ,etc ...?
The best option in Pc of moment for me is Photoshop, Ggale and promotion.
The old version of my own drawing tool is very similar to gfxage. The program is bit outdated (works only in 16 bit color depth mode) and on top of that I cannot recompile the source to include some improvements, additions or changes. So therefore I am currently working on something new too, though a little specific aimed for my own needs.
For now all graphics are drawn in 6bit mode (i.e. 64 colors palette) normal aspect ratio. In the end it will support some export features to export sc2/sc4, 4bit bitmap, 6bit bitmap graphics. Yes, that means no sc7 stuff.
For compatibility with the older version I had to included some nice color split feature (so in theory you can have 212 x 64 colors on one single screen
), very useful I think.
So far I also included some nice display filters so you can see what a drawing looks like (also during drawing) in sc2/4 or without contacts (very blurry).
Now doesn't it sound great!?

Try CharacterMaker1999 it a really good tile/pixel tool.
The reason of an AGE for PC is the hard work constantly for convert ge5 files to bmp with Viewmsx and bmp to sc5 with bmptomsx and change the CF or SD from Msx to Pc.
Nobody remember if AGE+ was an alpha version complete like AGE for msx2? Thanks to Gilvad for the gfx9000 version.
Rather than using a SD/CF to drag files to a real MSX, why not put it into a dir on your PC and use an emulator with a DirAsDisk function and run Age in that emulator?
Oh, in Polka2 there will be importers for all relevant MSX image formats.. Remember kids: it'll become more than 'just' a graphics tool!
guantxip: develop on emulator first? With dir-as-disk? Or, maybe Nowind can help?
Wolf: it's no use mentioning Polka2, because it is of no use to anyone, until it's released.
