SCC, PSG and KSS help is needed
I didn't make the KSS, edwin did. The music itself was made with Impulse Tracker 2, for which we made a custom player (Dr.Pill, Shift, Jailbreak were with IT2 too).

So those were with it too (IT2)?
somewhere a maid got lost..
Ok!
Is that IT2 easy to get with the SCC mod?
As far as I know, that tracker runs under ms-DOS (PC)...
Thanks Wolf_ ;-)
BTW: I love your John Montana Soundtrack: It's a smart and modern one, with classic adventure touch.
IT2 is shareware afaik (or vaporware, dunno, I have a registered version from 1997), but our player is private. Inside IT2 things are just as you expect them to be, short scc waveforms and psg drum samples. I run IT2 in a dosbox @ Win98se, using an SB-live (first edition) on my second PC.
KSS is not a music format. It is a file that contains the msx music player code as well as the data and runs that in sort of a limited emulator. Which means you can't really make a kss file without being able to code for msx.
Also, using IT2 to make msx music is not quite a simple as it sounds. It uses quite a complex conversion programme and custom made replayer. It's very user unfriendly and difficult to use. Someone else on this forum can vouch for that.
Or wait for TriloTracker.
That sounds fantastic. I've seen a thread on this forum with this 'Trilo Tracker' project for PC combining 5 SCC + 3 PGS channels.
On the other hand, there are awesome PC trackers for making chiptune music, and you can also export the songs to its native format. I'm talking about TFM or VGM written by shiru, with great built-in intrument editor, but these are only for YM2203 FM/PCM sounds and Sega MD/MS format. There is an absolutely great tracker for PC called PXtone. It's the most intuitive for the user, due to its piano-roll view for entering the notes, and tons of combinations among tempo, note durations and articulations, but this has its own format and instruments.
I really miss one of these models to compose music for MSX or for PC emulating MSX-SCC sound.
@Edwin: Thanks for quick response and detailed explanations. Congratulations to Infinite group for John Montana fine work.
My target is: to compose scc+psg music using the best/comfortable tracker as possible and export each piece to kss
Theory is quite a simple: Make KSS-header and compile the replayer routine together with data in to same file.
Here is explanation of KSS file format, that should get you started: www.purose.net/befis/download/nezplug/kssspec.txt
I would like to learn more about 'making KSS-header' and 'compile the replayer routine'.
What docs/webpages do you recommend me?
Thanks.
