Most MSX user nowadays use a hdd with their beloved MSX, a lot of them also play games from that ver hdd... But there are a few jewels of games which won't work as an image file. The same image files work perfectly with an emulator on pc. Personally I don't like emu's very much (except when I'm @ work Wink ).

Can't there anything be done so I (we) use diskimages on the real MSX with the advantage of a hdd as well?

I think there is an application called HDDEMU or something like that.
You can use DSK images using that application, but you need at least a turboR !

Here is the link:
http://www.msx.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=visit&lid=68

And there's 2 or 3 more utilities on http://www.faq.msxnet.org that enable you to run dsk images on a real MSX...

I tried hddemu on my Turbo-R but i.e. Xak2 just won't work....

Tonight I'check the other programs on this site Smile

edit: well, the programs described on the MSXfaq I already tried. I think it's very strange that the Xak2 images work perfectly on my pc with an emu and not on my real MSX with hdd. That's my point and the reason of opening this topic Smile

Emu's are cool when you don't have a real MSX, but there is so much effort put in the perfectioning of the emu's. Maybe too much? Maybe was it better that the efforts were put in programming cool tools etc. for the real MSX?

What do you say about that?

Xak2 does work on HDDEMU if you make the images with HDDEMU straight from the original disks. Trust me. Wink

Hmmm, I did that... When I started the game hddemu gave an error: Disk can't be read (or something like that). The same disks I used for making an image to use with an emu and it worked fine then.

Did you use the original game disks? If not, it might happen. If so, what version of HDDEMU are you using? Smile

I usually use GETDISK/ PUTDISK to create the image file
and I use START.COM for reading them.

No prob with games like Big Strategy 2, Aleste 2 or SD-Snatcher. I don't know if copy protected disks will work (never tried it).
