I am trying to get this game to run with an emulation without luck:
It is called Fruity Frank and I have come so far as getting to the title screen and then the emulator resets and boots again...
or it just freezes at the title screen.
I am using openmsx and emulating a Philips NMS_8250 starting via catapult.
Anyone who try and get this game to run and help me how?
Please keep CTRL key pressed during startup and so game already works. (you may need to hold down the left Ctrl key until you hear a beep).
If you use Onedrive.com program, then pressing CTRL key is not necessary. If you are interested, Contact with me at my registered address (I can pass you a DSK image that no needs CTRL to be pressed).
I see the problem here. Jeez', that disk is a mess. Like, really. Possibly the worst I've ever seen.
Okay, simple solution:
Boot the MSX2 (emulator) without the disk inserted.
Insert the disk.
Lines 50 & 60 are full of "POKE-1,170" statements.
Delete those or change them to "POKE-1,255".
Oh, and the "POKE&HFFFF,AA" has to go as well.
The game will now work when emulating a Philips machine.
Welcome to the MSX Resource Center!
Well I'll be, snakepow, booting with CTRL apparently works as well.
1) it's not warez, the website is by the games' author
2) poke -1,255 is for sony, -1,170 is for philips. There's a 'universal' poke too, but I don't know it by heart
3) hello data2011, welcome to msx.org
Yeah yeah, I noticed.
Game works fine when just trashing the POKEs. Or booting with CTRL indeed, which puzzles me.
Thanks for the welcome and the fast replies!
Well, it seems pressing CTRL does not have any affect, as I am still stuck at the title screen...
It says "Fruity Frank is loading" abd then changes to a colorful intro screen, but then i can't get any further...
Any key i need to press and input device i should use?
I dont have any joystick though...
Maybe someone can get me a working disk? (contacting snakepow but not sure its the CTRL key or something else...)
Thanks again, Clemens.
Did you try removing all those POKEs?
Because I don't think you really need those here, especially not loads of them.
Oh sorry, I misread. Again. Really on a roll today.
Try redefining the keys at the intro screen, by pressing "K".
It should work then.
Well, all i see is this:
Then it seems to be frozen, no matter what key i press, it does not go on...
So I dont get to see this screen:
I am using windows xp sp2, openmsx x86 + catapult 0.8.1, philips nms 8250...
Maybe i have wrong systemroms or wrong settings?
Hum, sorry, dunno, using blueMSX here actually, and pushing "K" works. But I just spotted an openMSX expert on the forum.
Though I really couldn't think of a reason why openMSX wouldn't do the trick.
But the freezing there indicates it doesn't like those POKEs!
Did you already try my suggestion at 18:38?
