Hi guys,

Some days ago I was trying to figure out the way enemy waves came at you in Konami's "Knightmare" (since we are working in a remake of it), and I'm struggling to find out how does it work. For instance, I've observed that:

- The next enemy wave doesn't show up until you kill the last enemy of the current enemy wave. As soon as you kill all the enemies in the screen, the next wave comes. This means that if you kill enemies very slow (or not at all(, you will reach the boss of the level having seen very few enemy waves.
- Powerups, however, show up independent of the enemy waves: they appear at fixed locations in the map.
- When you are killed, you respawn immediately before the last "powerup spot" in the map, and the next wave to be spawned was the last wave you had seen.

Is there any hardcore knightmare fan around here that cna confirm this behavior? Help will be very much appreciated!!!

Thanks! Smile

There was an msx 2 pc recompiler that had sources commented of several games, one of it was knightmare, now the pc recompiler is outdated of course, but a lot of games were commented,if you find it and use it you will see lots of stuff in those games, next would be to open up another bluemsx or openmsx emulator and use dissasembler and monitor the interrupt handler, most konami games have the main game loop there,if you look at the source of this game from the recompiler then you could easily use the dissasembler and find out how the logic of the game works.

Hi;
It's been a long time i have played Knightmare, but i can confirm the first observation, about enemy waves timing.
I have made a kind of remake sometime ago 1999, you can try here http://membres.multimania.fr/revengeknight/knight.zip
You'll need Dosbox to run it as it is a dos game.

Good luck with your remake, Knightmare for me is the MSX classic.

It will take a while before the remake is completed, as we're taking it easy Smile But still, we're progressing.

Yeah, alive and kicking! Smile

Taking remakes at a much slower pace these days, but still here!!

btw jgames, couldn't open that link. Also, I'd be definitively interested in that recompiler with annotated source code. A quick search in google didn't get me anywhere, anyone has the link for that?

Thanks jgames, I got it! It's quite nice! The sound didn't work for my on DOSBox (had to disable it for the game to work), but I could play fine. It's a bit hard though, since you restart levels from the beginning when you get hit!

Which remakes are now still in progress or otherwise unfinished?

I think finished are:
- Maze of Galious (well, some details are not OK, but still)
- Road Fighter
- F-1 Spirit
- Goonies

Any more?

Hehehe, I'd consider "Maze of Galious" and "Road Fighter" completed Smile

But there was also that "Magical Tree" one that we started and never even reached completing a single level!
