Possibility for new game subscription?

Hi all, I would like to know if there's any chance for a new game subscription like Sunrise did years ago. I love games like Pumpkin Adventure III, Sonyc and Bombaman with all OPL4 musics. The musics are very good, but I like to have more great games with OPL4 musics. Maybe MSX2+ can be used as minimum configuration? I know V9990 didn't become a success, so maybe we can use the V9958 instead because there are a lot more MSX2+ and MSX turbo R computers and MSX2 computers already upgraded to MSX2+ (or can be upgraded). I suggest people can sign in if they are willing to pay for a new game project... at least I do.... if we could have some new goodies, that would be great! Depending of available hardware we can decide to have MSX2 or MSX2+ as mimimum configuration. Please share your opinion...

Sooooo... You give us money first and then we will finish our game DEVA (MSX 2, FM+Moonsound)? Sounds like a good deal to me! Wink But we will finish the game anyway, with or without financial support in advance.

In a nutshell, what you suggest is crowd funding. I brought up the idea many years ago (dunno the topic title or I would've linked to that thread), but nothing fruitful came out of it.

Here are some issues I see with crowd funding for MSX:

  • How many developers do it for the money in the first place? If they don't care about it, some money from a crowd probably won't make much of an impression. The idea of polling a crowd can then still be worthy however, even with no money involved, the developers will get an idea of how many people would be interested in buying the finished product - just as they would with any other product.
  • Even with money involved, what are the odds a game gets finished anyway? So many games didn't make it. X-Tazy, Nosferatu, and a whole slew o' others - and typically they were not being made by sloppy programmers, just something didn't work out.. probably time or teams disbanding. All those factors can be tricky when money is involved, I'm not so sure project teams are ready to accept that risk. They may prefer freedom during development while hoping for sales when it's all done.
  • To be honest, each year we see new games anyway, as a result of contests, and some are released outside of any contest. Things could be worse. Things could be better too, I know, but I think there's more reason to cheer than otherwise.

Finally, Mr.Polka2 comes piping in once again, can't help it, but I have the feeling that Polka2 will help to streamline bigger projects. We'll have to see how developers react to it though.. time will tell.

So Robert ... what about a preorder offer as the guys from project Melancholia did? I think that nearly no one in this forum have problems to pay 10 or 20 EUR for a high quality Game as we know from the Game Subscription many years ago. PA 3 was one of the greatest homebrew Games I'd ever seen on MSX. People how could create such nice Games became older and have nearly no spare time to make new stuff for our lovely MSX. What we all need is a MSX-DEV for MSX-2 with minimum support for FM Sound. The beginning should be a giant donation call to all msx lovers around here. If we all love our MSX Machines and if we all love to play new Games, we all should be able to collect 2-3000 EUR for a really professional contest with "Game-Subscription-a-like-Games" as results. Thats it ... and sorry for my broken english ... typical german :-)

We have something like this now, the #msxdev compo. While it is not strickly an MSX2 with fmpac compo, nor is it just a game compo,  we may be able to see more higher spec games than before. I truly hope this #msxdev compo takes off and will do to msx2 and higher what MSXdev did for msx1: starting an endless wave of games for those systems ;)  new msx2, msx2+ or turbo r games each year... yes please!

Great! When can we expect it to be ready?
