Why didn't LaserDisc become a standard?

I mean, look at those graphics, OMG. Was it too expensive, hard to program for, or anything?

Yes, too expensive. I've read that the ones in the arcades wore out pretty quickly. And aside from Dragon's Lair, they weren't big hits.

As for 'programming', it depends. You either make the animations yourself(or hire a 3rd party), I imagine it's a lot of work in the 80s. Or you just borrow them from Star Trek or an anime serie. Tongue

I guess making the animations and the video footage was very expensive (like recording a movie) at that time.
