collection threads
I'm not against it, but I doubt it will work. People tend to just start some random topic and halfway these subjects pop up, and the discussion continues like that in that same thread. Years ago people tried to set up a new SymbOS thread too, as the famous one was getting a bit big.. eventually people kept reacting in that same thread however. Bottomline is that folks are hard to control as for where they will post something. If someone opens a thread about, say, Space Manbow, then eventually the subject of scrolling, tiles and sprites will pop up, and that's likely where the discussion will continue. Likewise, if someone opens a thread about MSXdev'11, initially to talk about the expected amount of games, or with an announcement of a new game, .. eventually the specs discussion will pop up, and old_MSX1fans will argue that MSX1 gfx are good enough, eventually resulting in yet another discussion about tiles, sprites, fake-scrolling etc. You just can't control all that, it happens as it does.

I don't have in mind a control-freak style, but situations like this: there is talk about a game, and another meg of detailed thoughts about the never-ending topic of scrolling pops up
In those cases one could switch to the collection thread.
So, is it ok when I just create those empty threads?
mmm.. I'd rather see you create such threads once you have something significant to write about that, or else it'll end up being an empty thread. Because there's no guarantee that someone will ever use it. I'm not against the idea of specific dedicated threads, but rather create one when there's an urge to, which includes having content.
you could look at other websites, for example www.tweakers.net forum. They have big centralized topics as well. But the first post there is usually very large (often comparable to a small-mediumsized wikipedia entry), where the topic opener keeps updating the first post with new info gathered from the various posts, as well as links to certain posts. First posts sometimes need more than 1 posts itself. (reserving the second and third post for that). Those big threads really look like faqs in some cases.
Also they close the threads and open new ones when it goes over a certain amount of pages and open a new one with copy pasted and updated opening post. And questions in other threads/new topics will be directed to the centralized threads.

Offcourse this takes lots of dedication/effort from the topic opener AND some moderator work (closing other threads with similar topics, preventing of other threads derailing etc).
I am not a moderator here (or anywhere else for that matter) but hit9918 could start those threads by summarizing all the relevant info together with links to most topics/posts on msx forum in one post, and work from there on? (adding more info to the opening posts when people post more info in the topic)
However, after a few minutes, you are no longer allowed to edit your post on this forum.
@Wolf, I agree with you.
I propose an Idea of making a MSX WIKI, and put inside all the libraries and information to people to teach how is the best way to draw an sprite, play music or make a complete game.
Do you like the idea?
Keep in mind that the big topics on tweakers.net are exceptions. Without a significant startpost it is not allowed and for questions and problems you should still open a new topic. Big topics are very difficult to search through. Smaller topics are about more specific things so it is more easy to find the things you are looking for. Something like a wiki should be more usable for loads of info about a topic. .
I happen to be one of the forum moderators on tweakers.net and for the parts of the forum where I can moderate we rather get rid of the big topics since its very hard to find what you need, it can encourage slowchatting and pure helpdesking ("this is my problem, go fix it for me"). Stuff we dont really want.
think snout posted mrc were working on a wiki
On the other hand. Come on! All the info is there on the net. I doesn't take a rocket scientist to find it.
Do we really need to be spoon-fed to be creative on the MSX?
On the other hand I do like the idea of a wiki. People can dump their ideas/snippets and articles there. It would hopefully end the ever ongoing 'smooth scroll' and 'go for higher specs' remarks when someone shows his WIP projects. Which is annoying (like a coder totally forgot to implement smooth scrolling by accident or never heard about screen5).
I propose an Idea of making a MSX WIKI
Have a few months o' patience! Maybe even less than a few months.. dunno.. we're a bit like the Dutch weather forecast (or not.. just building up the tension, I've made the timpani crescendo already). But the WIKI will be a fact by then!
