please set up a PM system for msx.org, (private messages).

not all ppl makes public his emails at profile, and not all the comunications must be for public domain, some times we have the necesity of having a private channel inside the forum.

It could slow down activity on the forums, don't you think? That would be a bad thing.

When I was part of the msx.org board, I remember having discussions like these. I believe datatraffic control is also a reason for not implementing Private Messaging...

my 5 cent guess :

i can imagine many situations in which private message can reduce forum activity , example :
-someone asks for a technical info ( lets say programming ) on the forum , and someone answer him with private message because it includes some code example he may think it is too boring to put on the forum . Then the others doesn't know the solution or cannot comment the solution or perfect it.
- then you start selecting what should be private or not , what worth to be disclosed to the community .

when do you need private channel ?
I mean if you come to know someone so that u want to private mail him u probably know his e-mail, e-mail IS private message.
on top of that private message sometimes smells like it is used for saying bad things like :
" u should not say this ... " " u should bla bla bla " --> it happened to me somewhere else .

The only case i can think of is for selling/ trading but it is very marginal and usually is linked with other means of communication ( external link , ebay , .... )

All in all I am quite satisfied with the level of respect / interest on this forum : i think there is enough respect and understanding to expose even some subject on the edge of private message. But of course we cannot prevent people to talk each other on exclusive channels ... e-mail

Not having PM system is good, because it makes MRC look like something from 1995 (just like using tables instead of css for formatting). This site is retro all the way! If only it used gopher instead of this newfangled www...

ebay offcourse will not allow users comunicating in private for obvious reasons.

now, PM is necesary some time, like ....

MRC is just a "resource" center?, ok, it is meant for MSX & DEVELOPERS of MSX? or I misread something...

if the purpose is that, why not to have a PM system, one advanced, plus other basic things, for boosting developing on MRC instead to emigrate to others websites/comunities.

* the ability of join teams, is to say, the ability of creating a teanname, then users subscript to the team, when accepted by the team owner.....

* that a teamname has a PM receipt that every PM sent to that receipt is redirected to everybody on the team.

* an special area at forum where only the teams member can read/reply/edit.

so, it will easily be like a basic sourceforge, where private code will be safetily shared, edited, developed on that forum space create for the team (not just only one thread, but a subforum with the team-name holded on a special forum-tree)

THIS IS MY VISION for MRC.

anyway, I was needing PM system for:

- HEY giveme your email by PM (sent on a PM) , yes, you knows I wanted the email of somebody and I will not do the request in public.
