Hi all,

I stumbled across this website and forum by sheer chance. I had a bit of a day of nostalgia and decided to go into my loft dig out my old Toshiba HX-10 and see if the thing still worked. I found a plug, wired it up connected it to my tv and amazingly its still working. I have some of the keys not working so that is my first priority. I still have the cassette lead but no cassette player. If I get the keys all working, currently 0(zero), 4 , W, O , H , B and BS don't work, I will look at getting a cassette player. In the box in the loft I have approximately 50 games on tape(more at my parents house I think) and 1 catridge. I will go through the games and post a list.

With my kids now at school I have a few days to myself so besides playing on my XBox I want to get my old MSX working like when I first had it. My brother and I spent countless hours playing on it and loved every minute of it. My aim is to video them working to create a memory library for me and whoever else wants to see them.

I have no programming skills on the MSX, although when I was a kid I spent several hours copying code from a magazine to get the ominous Syntax Error!!

If anyone can give me any tips on how best to fix the keyboard I would be very grateful.
Also which type of cassette player do I need/is best and is there anything in particular I need to look for. Links would be great.

I look forward to retracing my childhood and communicating my journey with fellow MSX'ers!

My job is a CNC machine setter, I am married with 3 children and have loved computers since my late gran introduced me to the Atari 2600.

Bye for now and any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Hi once again,
Here is my list of games I currently have in my possession. There are a few more at my parents house( fingers crossed) so the list may be added too.
Alpha Blaster, Shark Hunter, Zoids, Ghostbusters, Formula 1 Simulator, Grid Trap, Pro Snooker, Finders Keepers, Who Dares Wins 2, Jackle & Wide, Soccer Boss, The Way of The Tiger, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 180, Brian Jacks Superstar Challenge, Skramble, Storm, Buzz Off!, Amaurote, Lazy Jones, Grog, Bounder, Valkyr, Gunfright, Congo, Can of Worms, Jumpin Jack, Invader, Foot Volley, Joe Blade, Streaker, Gauntlet, Chicken Chase, Panzer Attack, Arkanoid, BMX Simulator, Feud, Ace of Aces, Black Beard, Sea King, Humphrey, Crazy Golf, Speed King, Time Trax, Pacmania, International Karate, Out Run, Titanic, Gary Linekars Superstar Soccer. All these games are on cassette.

I have one game F1-Spirit on cartridge. I just plugged it in at it works still yippee! Here is a link to a quick video of it on YouTube I filmed working in demo mode.

I have ordered a cassette player from ebay in the hope that my cassettes still work.

Special memories for me
No 1 Feud - first game I ever bought, didnt even have a tape player to play it on for about 6 months. Love the music so hope it still loads.
No 2 Lazy Jones - Awesome mini games game and the music was sampled and released as Zombie Nation in the year 2000. I was in Ibiza then!
No 3 Speed King - with the joystick I had if it was plugged in during load the bike always veered left!!

Games that I may find at my parents house are Barn Stormer, Manic Miner, Elidon, Sharkhunter and a Penguin game on cartridge.

Still looking for tips on solving my keyboard keys that arent working if anyone has any tips please.

Ok I have got my keyboard fully functional again. I took it completely apart and cleaned it up inside. This made no difference. I popped off a key and looked at how the switch was made up. I prized off the plastic retainer carefully. Lifted out the plastic 4 legged thing, took out the dome rubber cap and straight away could see a coppery green contamination across the contacts. Using a flathead screwdriver I carefully scraped across the contacts, cleaned the rubber dome cap, refitted everything and now they all work no problem. I hope this helps someone else who may be suffering a similar problem.
Roll on the cassette player now!
