A few months ago i have been busy with a remake of SD Snatcher, and i got a lot of reactions about it, unfortunately i had to stop the project after releasing the playable demo of the game (up to Pier 17) because of personal stuff.
I made 'my' version of the game with the program called RPGMaker 2000 and i made it look as much as possible as the original.

A friend of mine took over the project and is planning to finish it also.

Look like the original means a literal port, or with upgraded graphics/music like the MoG remake? These projects are really fun

At first I intended to say something like "naah, that's childish" but I've decided to take this very seriously. Hence a very cunning question:

Why?

Why not childish? It`s a little bit of several things I guess. MSX is a way for many people (as me) to relive their childhood. When I was younger there was a (fun) war between Amiga, MSX, IBM compatibles etc, so it`s nostalgia to be childish and say like MSX rules, PC`s suck..
As to the biggest reson: For me SD Snatcher IS MSX, so porting it is blasphemy TO ME.
If we weren`t childish, we wouldn`t be using our MSX`s

my intention with making this, was to show people who dont know msx, what great games there were back then. And the other reason is/was, to show the people at konami that not only games like, metal gear, contra and castlevania are games that people still want to play, but snatcher too! And maybe even convince to do a sequel of (SD) Snatcher!!

There still are so many Snatcher fans around the world, and SD snatcher still has one of the most battle engines that exists, never seen anything like it since 1991! did you??

Sheesh what a nonsense. Saying SD-Snatcher is MSX is blasphemy if anything is (which i don't think). MSX is so much more than just one game, no matter how brilliant it is. Without SD-Snatcher the MSX would still be just as great. I agree with the point that MSX Rules, PC's suck is childish, which is why I never say anything like it. I would welcome a remake of SD-Snatcher, not in the least since it is fun to make. The MSX Spirit, the way of MSX as you say has nothing to do with the characters MSX, it has nothing to do with a Zilog cpu, nor with any kind of technology. It has to do with being creative, no matter on what platform, THAT is the essence of what MSX has taught me.

Blasphemy? no way jose, it's a tribute. Etude de MSX.

If there wasn't SD-Snatcher then we'd all regard other games as the best RPG on msx, like xak2, DS6 etc. If SD Snatcher wouldn't be there we wouldn't miss it. So, porting SD-Snatcher to PC is nothing to worry about, it's definitly not a part of the 'msx'.

Go back some years, when there was nemesis. The fact that there was also a nemesis on other platforms (gradius) didn't mean that the msx was degraded in any way, did it?

SD-Snatcher and Metal Gear 2 can be considered Konami's final gifts to the MSX system. From a commercial point of view it was better to develop them for a different platform. Hence, recreating that gift on a different platform is IMO an insult to Konami and to MSX.

Congratulations, you are wrong.

Konami released these games on msx for one single reason: money making. No gift. No charity. Absolutely no msx salute. Plain business.

Hehe... Fun to see so much fire over one small comment. Well, at least I`d like to believe that there are different people dealing with finance at Konami as to doing the programming, or else they`d be payed in fish! I think you will see the point. I do think the programmers enjoyed themselves more than thinking of earning money working on SD-Snatcher.

As to what MSX is is very different from person to person, but I feel that for me SD-Snatcher is a big part of it, since it`s the best game I`ve played on it. I do NOT mean that SD-Snatcher is ALL that is to MSX, and you know that.

Well, if all the MSX people started doing stuff for MSX instead of fighting, making remakes and stuff, MSX would have a better scene. Use the fire on MSX instead!
And that MSX would profit from a remake? Now that`s a load of bull! I know people bought MSX`s just for one game, and if they can have that on a PC, then they wouldn`t. Besides, if they play SD-Snatcher on an emulator, at least they see the MSX logo!!

No YOU are wrong. Realisticly, by the time SD-Snatcher and Metal Gear 2 went into production, far better, more popular and more profitable platforms already existed. So if they were doing it for the money, they could've made a far better choice.

My second point, looking at the games that exist on both MSX and on other platforms (most notably the Gradius-saga), the games on MSX have something that none of the others have. An actualy storyline, extra demo's, all kinds of extra effort not necessary for commercial success.

Come on, why do you think they integrated the MSX system and startup screen in the g*dd*mn storyline of Metal Gear 2?!

Don't be so shortsighted. Good motivated programmers care deeply for the system they program and the games they are working on, so it's not surprising at all. With the game industry as it is now, it will probably be less, but I'm convinced that's how it was back then.

However, I think we should take in account that Konami probably had started development of Metal Gear 2 and SD-Snatcher long before the MSX software market really deteriorated in Japan.

Personally, I do like to think that Konami considered MSX to be a special computer. Hence, they gave it the SCC and an impressive list of cool releases, like GuyveR800 stated most of the time with extra's that weren't there in other versions. (However, the Snatcher on MSX has less acts than the PC98/Sega/PSX versions, am I right? ).

Since SD-Snatcher was a huge success, but still wasn't ported to other systems I like to think of it as a goodbye gift to MSX. Metal Gear was MSX only as well, well.. the NES versions sucked too much to be called Metal Gears

I remember that when the first Metal Gear Solid rumours were spread, Konami stated something like 'it is true. For the first time in years we have found a console that is worthy of a sequel to this very special game'
