I have actualy about 100Gb of unused free space on one of my {link removed} servers.
I would like to use them to create a separate MSX Music Page where i 'd like to gather as many MSX music remakes/covers/arranges and other things that have to be defined.
This way every musician that want to cover MSX music won't have to worry about finding web space and stuffs.
I need a GOOD php/mysql coder to achieve the job, accurately. I won't do it alone.
Contact me if interested.

I'm not interested in doing the coding, but I am interested in the webspace I could use some space for download versions of Arranger Gold and Arranger Platinum. They are about 70 MB each so I can't store them myself. It's not really the webspace that is the big problem, it might be the traffic |

sounds like a solid plan.
I could do some Javascript, PHP and MySQL code if you want.
But there has to be a layout plan.
This is a cunning plan I always missed. I see MRC as the ultimate MSX community site, not for downloading any softs. There should be dedicated sites for that.
One for music (originals, covers, mbm/mus/orc/mbw/mbf/sng etc. etc)
One for the demo scene (including FAQ, Downloads, member areas etc)
and so on.
*edit additional*
(brainstorm)
Been thinking a bit about the idea.
Would it not be nifty if ppl can get a user account where they could upload there music. User accounts could be very exclusive, to prevent abuse. (thinking of NOT automating accounts)
When uploading the user has to index the file itselfs: Trackname, type (original/cover), Brand name, product name etc. Easy to sort on these labels. And 'see more from user xxx' buttons on tracks. etc. etc.
should not be that difficult and easy to maintain!

Are you thinking about also putting up the *official* arranged versions of MSX music? Ie: all the game soundtracks and SAV's that are out there? And the original sound? That would probably create the largest gamemusic online database that exists. But, many of the arranged albums would be considered copyrighted. Not that there is any way of actually buying them anymore.

Yeah, al kinds of music. Also the KSS versions etc. And what about amateur music? (original MBM files for example... )
like I said: a dedicated MUSIC page (not only download but also info about trackers, composers .. and everything)
same goes for GAMES, DEMOS, GFX, CODING etc.
and some uniform layout would be nice maybe. atleast it should be the MAJOR sites. And should be coded good. not like so many amateur site I could mention. And the contents... b'coz it is dynamic the site-content would be self sufficient (thanx to contributions from the users logged in)
j-war: is that server capable of handling some use traffic? (just a warning) and how about costs? we'll see. it's j-war's project, I'm just spitting some brainstorm here. any one?

As i said an MSX MUSIC PAGE. The title says it all, i want to cover MSX music
There will be space for ppl for uploading their MSX remakes, MSX original compos and we'll have to define policy for encoding, tagging and stuffs.

I am not into " amateur " looking things
Dunno if it will be a major site but little by little, it could be a neat page !
Thats why i search talented coder to achieve great job.
For the design and layout, look at my other major site :
{link removed}
www.j-war.com
I am not the best but i am a very capable designer !

It seems you don't know my site. Lemme explain.
{link removed} is one of the 3 biggest rom site in the world, if not the biggest (don't know exactly if we're first or second at the moment...)
We have 20 000 visitors (different IP per Day) and 400Gb of hard drive on a realy fast connection.
A MSX Music site will never generate enough trafic to be a problem... By the way the servers are already setted up to limit to 1 connex / IP and stuffs.
Also, we're online since 1998. |

Ok, here's my policy:
- encoding: Lame encoder, optimized preset VBR (uses an algorhythm that determines the rate dynamically depending on audio frequencies)
- Tagging: I normally only use ID3 tag v1, but that's open for discussion
- naming convention...that's always a pain in the ass for mp3 files really I use this format:
trackno - trackname (special).mp3 or
trackno - artist - trackname (special).mp3 for compilation discs.
With normal albums I never put the artist in the filename, and never the album, since the directory is the album. For example:
Xak 1 OST (albumname)
01 - Opening.mp3
(the artist Takashi Niita is not in the filename, only in the id3 tag)
As I said I can provide you with content, any content, whether it's MSX original recordings, arranged soundtracks and our own homemade arrangements (see http://www.generation-msx.nl/arranger ). |

Thanks for the kind words !
I assume the WAREZ label was chosen with reason cause i realy feel offended especialy when i find links to Funet, or news about MEP on cd !
Copyrights for MSX or Nes, Sms, Neo Geo... and other vintage systems are THE SAME...
I would like to say something important :
We are a site covering Emulation news and featuring roms for dead systems and WE DO NOT have games for PC, PS1, PS2, Xbox, DC, GBA, N64 !!!

I quess we've had that discussion already (about the FUNNET link being warez etc. etc.)
Think we should respect MRC's policies, even if we don't agree. getting off-topic here.
J-war: Maybe this could be one of the first co-ops between MSX users here.. cool
I'm with the Rudeman about MP3 encoding. would be great to have each mp3 encoded for LOW VBR and HIGHR VBR in case of modem speeds... whaahah. ahum.
but these kinda specs can be put in a tech.book for your idea.
anywayz... coffee any one?

J-War, I am glad you made your statement. And msx.org respects this statement. But we don't see copyrighted MSX material as abandonware or vintage, as you name it. Especially considering the new interest in Japan in the MSX system and its software, msx.org believes we should respect the copyrights on MSX software.
Hopefully, you can understand this policy.
