Hi,
This is a strange request, but does anybody by any chance have a working .DSK file of Pixess?
I tried to make one myself, but it seems noone of (ex)Compjoetania (even the darn programmers) has an unprotected copy of our game ^_^ ... Or they do still have em, but they're lost
And our 1337 sector-protection thingies on the Pixess Originals are screwing up my .DSK image maker tool :'(
Heck, I'll even accept a cracked version! (if there is one anyway) |

Heheh... Ok, I'll check if I still have duplicate originals if so I'll send them to you and as a reward you can keep the originals with the patented gold-colorlabels they're probably worth a lot of money or something LOL
Now if I have only one copy of Pixess left I'll be hesitated to send it ...
Damn there goes another night searching a needle in a haystack (in a major pile of old and forgotten diskettes.) |

r u saying you can't even make a single .DKS file of it without getting a corrupt image?
if the making of the disk work (but won't run coz of the protection) why not mail me the .dsk image and I'll have a look?!
(remember I got a crashed FDD on my msx, so no reading possible)

If you can't make a good DSK file out of the original disk with your PC, use for example SMA disk copier or similar first on MSX and then make DSK out of the copy. |

Where can we get this software (or similar) to make unprotected copies? |

Nopez, even most of our musicdisks have that protection (to my immense grief now that I can only use emulators, cause my msx died )
but, i'll mail you the .DSK file soon... gotta create one again I think (I deleted the ones that didn't work) |

No, these copy softwares don't make unprotected copies, but they will copy everything else, but copy protection. This way you can send the program to someone, that is willing to crack it.
The problem is, that old copy softwares usually don't check for errors, so sectors after copy protection are usually corrupted. It sounds like, that your tool to make DSK files will fail to copy protection as well. To get over this problem you have to get a program, that can handle bad sectors either in MSX or PC , but still the code needs to be modifyed to get the copy working.
I mentioned SMA copy, as that was the first copy program that I used, that was able to use all VRAM and RAM and it was also able to handle disk errors correctly. That was made in 1995 or something like that (???) I believe, that there is many alternatives available now a days. You can even use partition copy (PCOPY) that I made, but as that is made more for MSX harddisk backup purposes, so it does not copy first sector. If you try some other software on your PC, I bet, that you can get good copy.
There is no ultimate solution that you could use for playing all games on emulator. The good old copy protections will still limit you, and only way to get around them is to crack them in old fashion way. Anyway... to get to this step, you need that "good copy".

Hi, i'm on of the ex-compjoetania members, like Low Profile. The Pixess copy protection was made with the Turbo R copy program... don't remember tha name. But unless you have that program, and also know the trick, you cannot copy it. But with the right trick en equipment it is crackable... NOP proofed it already (within 6 hours after release : ) )

I found out the trick already, but since my MSX FDD is like BROKEN I could not recover the essential sectors which are loaden to 0xB000 address...
Have to get those sects. But I'll send a sector to data routine one of these days maybe. dunno kinda stucked in too much work at the moment.

Formula is a great program, although the interface is kinda sucky, it copies a lot and has great features like disksectore editing etc.
