Does anyone have 100% intact DSK images of "30 msx hits on disk" (3 disks) ?
My originals are like Swiss cheese, almost nothing works anymore.
(bad disk quality probably ..)

The disks contain classics such as boulderdash I & II, scooter, hardboiled, sorcery etc. So as you see, it's that first 30 hits compilation that came in that yellow square box with those crappy manuals, and it's not that 2nd '30 hits' compilation by sparrow soft that're mainly japanese basic games

btw.. when sparrow soft went bankrupt (I ordered that '2nd' 30 hits collection at that time), what do you think they sent me? not a replacement game ... no ladies and gentleman, if a customer orders a game-collection (costing 80 guilders!), then the customer should be equally satisfied with an original of WBass2 !

What were they thinking? 'if you want games, code them yourself' ?

I'm still looking for those disks! I only got the tapes... (original and .cas images of them).

Is Boulderdash from disk playable on a European MSX? I have the tape version and the two Boulderdashes were unfortunately unplayable as they switched to 60 Hz. Also one game (Manic Miner IIRC) gave an error in the basic loader. All in all these were a few unfortunate glitches, really not acceptable for an otherwise very nice and cheap set of games.

They switched to 60Hz??? I don't think so... You can't switch to 60Hz on an MSX1, and those are MSX1 games. I doubt they do VDP detection or try to write V9938 regs just like that. (Also, on a side note, what's wrong with 60Hz? Most monitors can handle it fine.)

Well I don't know what exactly they did in the code, but the TV screen produced multiple overlapping frames, heavily flickering, exactly as when you typed in vdp(10)=2. (Or was it 0?) And I'm not the only one who had this, Loek van Kooten asked a question about it in an MSX-Gids once...

And what's wrong with 60Hz: simple, TV sets can't handle it. I'm not sure but I guess that's what a vast majority of people connected their MSX to in the 80's.

Just tested the .cas image in BlueMSX and indeed: the game switches from 50Hz to 60Hz as soon as it starts.

Heh, how weird! I guess they did it by accident... I can't imagine anything else! Funny, I never knew this.

By the way, Manic Miner is not in 30 MSX Hits. Did you mean Miner Machine? I tried that one, but it works...

Ah yes, Miner Machine. And Happy Fret. Did you test on an MSX2? Both still give the same loading errors on the emulator as I recall on my NMS 8220. One is a readable basic error in some Poke which I managed to circumvent back in the days, while the other error message is unreadable as it is already displayed in a graphical screen 1.

Might be that the games did work on MSX1, and they only tested on those before releasing. I also remember YabYum not working on MSX2 while it worked on MSX1. So far for full compatibility. But I digress...
