Sorry for the off-topic, but does SD Snatcher really have a copy protection? In the case it has one, which kind of copy protection?

I think Sean Young said so, but I don't remember where (mailinglist, newsgroup or private mail). I was surprised, as I think the RAM in the SCC+ cartridge already functions as a pretty good protection. It's likely Konami deliberately put the RAM in pages 8..15 instead of 0..7 to make it harder for owners of The Snatcher to run SD Snatcher illegally with the same cartridge.

euh the scc+ + 64kb ram as a copy protection???
if it had a copy protection it would be a bad sector copy protection because if the 64 kb ram was the copy protection it would always work on machines with 128 kb ram or more and the protection failed i guess the hardest msx game to crack was the best msx game ever :SOLID SNAKE metalgear 2

no it wouldn't just work with 128kB ram, because it actually checks if there's an SCC+ with 64kB RAM inserted.

Also, the 64K is mapped in 8kB pages konami-style, not 16kB ASCII style.

Both mth and Poisonic are right.

The original SD-Snatcher does not work without the Sound Cartridge the 3 disks are shipped with. It has RAM located on different blocks to distiguish it from the Snatcher Sound Cartridge.

Also, the first disk (bootdisk) has a bad sector which to act as a copy protection. I will not go into details on which sector it actually is though...

And about Arjan's reply, neither of the games check for a 128 KB SCC+ though

Bifi, I was talking about machines with 128kB RAM, not SCCs with 128kB RAM.

Arjan, I know... though the smiley should've told you that already... I think.
