Maybe it is a stupid question but what about SCC+?? Is it emulated very well? What I mean is that 6 years ago I once heard the SD-Snatcher intro with SCC+ and all I can remember (hey, beer makes holes in your mind, I think, I can't remember?) was that there was not much difference between SCC and SCC+ music.
Is the difference between SCC & SCC+ small? Can they emulate SCC+ so you finally can hear it. (SCC+ cartridges were very rare 6 to 8 years ago).
Who can explain this to me?

In my opinion there's almost no difference between SCC and SCC+.

Sadly enough, that's my opinion too BUT I never had the opertunity to listen to SCC+ (just once)!!
So, If I listen to SCC+ on a emulator is it very well emulated?????

On an 'ordinary SCC' channel 4 and 5 are linked to each other. This means that you have to use the same instrument on both channels. SCC+ lacks this limitation, which offers the possibility to use more instruments. As far as I know that's the only difference between SCC and SCC+, making SCC+ sound almost the same in every song (in most songs you are using the same instruments on 2 or 3 channels anyway, so only in some occasions it really matters)

I could set up a table for this
From an audio point of view the SCC+ (or its real name SCC-II) has its own wave on each channel. A normal SCC has always the same wave on both channel 4 and 5. The SCC+ also has a 'normal SCC compatibility' mode which simply means SCC+ will fully act as a normal SCC with all its limitations.
Apart from audio both SCC and SCC+ have a mapper circuit as well to switch ROM banks split up in 8KB chunks. Even then the SCC+ is more advanced. It contains things to access and control DRAM. On an unmodified Konami PCB it's up to 128 KB (of which 64 KB is already present). The chip might be able to access more than 128 KB of DRAM. |

musically spoken, the chances are big that you need 2 channels with 1 voice anyway .. (echo-channels, chord-channels, detune-channels), so why bother Konami didn't either.. |

Thx everybody for this clear explanation!! So, this means the SCC+ can do a lot more but Konami invested no more time in this soundchip cause they left the msx and went on to other systems & consoles!!

No, that's not what it means at all!!
SCC+ just allows you to make more diverse sounds. In SD-Snatcher a lot of sound-effects sound REALLY CRAPPY on normal SCC. For instance the seaguls and the boats on Peer 17 sound like shite on SCC, but very good on SCC+.

I should correct myself here... It's not SCC-II but SCC-I which is its real name. |
