A small thing...

Add style="vertical-align:middle;" to the IMG tags of the smileys (or put it in the style sheet). Right now they are base-aligned, meaning the bottom of the picture is aligned to the bottom of the characters (like o and a, not g). With this, they will be aligned to the middle of the characters (the - in e, for example), and it will look better.

Oh, and also, if I may ask, please do something about the quote tag... Right now it looks quite horrible . I would say, decrease the amount of whitespace between the quote content and the surrounding (<hr> markers, and also reduce the indentation of the quotes to match the indentation of the horizontal lines...

Hm... it's not *that* difficult... Hay, maybe sometime in the (near) future you can organize an 'MRC small changes week' or something? Then all the staff can in one week put full attention on all the small things in the ToDo list... I think that'd be neat, I bet loads of small annoyances will be fixed at once and everyone will notice improvements everywhere.

*grin*

Well, how's that for an idea .

Okay, I modded a few things but the thing is... the forum needs a huge overhaul in the near future. It stores quite some stuff quite inefficiently in our database. (e.g. parsed code instead of unparsed).

Either way. New posts should display the smilies correctly.

See?

I will improve quote and block stuff l8r, when I go optimizing the site and upgrading the forum. (yay). Trust me. This will take quite a while.

'kay, it looks better .

By the way, weird that it only works with new messages! I wonder what the logic behind that is...

Which is a good thing, since now you have to parse the message just once (when inserting/updating) in stead of every time a page is requested. Watch them (shared) server go down if forum activity keeps increasing

Harrumpf... If you'd use an efficient parsing method... It's only search and replace we're talking about, on machines with gigahertzes of processing power...

And with parsed stuff, editing is a bitch. Well, for the script at least. And changing layout stuff is aswell (well, simply adding a class="smiley" and using CSS the way it's supposed to be could solve that, I guess).

I agree with Grauw here and am still wondering why I didn't change that in the first place, back in December 2002 . It saves quite some storage too, you know

Ah well.. will fix that all later on during the Big Optimization Operation
