So, here it is... the extended report of the Snowfall jury. As you all probably now, Wammes Witkop was the head of this jury. Below you can see a list of all demo's including a small note from the jury, which will mainly, but not only, reflect Wammes' opinion about the demo's.

In general, we were very pleased with the amount and diversity of the submitted demo's. They ranged from very simple onliners -Wammes was very pleased to see Kort en Krachtig going strong- to graphical masterpieces, sometimes complete with nice music. Sometimes it takes quite a while to load and initialize the demo's. One would expect a simple counter or progress indicator, just to show the viewers that something is happening! Although it was nice to see several results coming in early, the last submissions are among the best demo's in the challenge. An advice for the upcoming challenges: take the time you need, keeping the deadline in mind.

So, now lets have a look at each demo seperately, here is the top 25 of the Snowfall challenge!

01 - Snowfall demo 25 - HiSpec
    Created by: Patriek Lesparre (GuyveR800)
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX2/512kB RAM/GFX9000
    Recommended: 7MHz/MSX turboR
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: A 360 degrees rotating mountain (digitized), large snowflakes and a huge sinus-scroller. Realtime decompression. For all the lucky owners of GFX9000 cards
Jury: Remarkable! Very impressive. Huge sine-scroll, big snowflakes moving in front of and behind the scroll and an impressive mountain-landscape rotating. We take the fact the rotation doesn't go 100% fluently for granted, especcially since it's being decompressed real-time. A new standard for GFX9000 developers has been set.

02 - Snowfall demo 20 - Xmas 2003
    Created by: TeddyWareZ
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX2
    Recommended: MSX-Audio/MSX-MUSIC
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: An intro inspired by the Matrix, a nice drawing with a snowfall effect (spot the changes) and a scroller and a very special scroller as an ending
Jury: A true MSX sound and approach. All members of the jury had very nostalgic feelings watching this demo and we hope there will soon be more products just like this. Extra points for greeting Wammes (kidding )!

03 - Snowfall demo 18 - Digital snow
    Created by: Infinite
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX2
    Recommended: MSX-Audio/MSX-MUSIC/Moonsound
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: A plasma logo-intro, a great drawing, a huge scroller and a snowfall effect inside the snow-font!
Jury: Nice demo, good drawings. The plasma intro looks great, and the idea of showing the snowfall effect in the scroll-text is very original. The music is a bit annoying, just as it should be!

04 - Snowfall demo 21 - YASD
Created by: David Heremans (turboR of Compjoetania TNG)
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: YASD stands for Yet Another Snow Demo. Two types of effects alternate in this demo, snowfall reflecting in water and snowfall sticking to text.
Jury: Sexy, those mirrored snowflakes in the water!

05 - Snowfall demo 05
Created by: Sjoerd Mastijn (XL2S Entertainment)
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 18-12-2003
Description: Nice graphics, a nice snowfall effect and user controlleable windflow!
Jury: Excellent GFX, superb controllable snow. As simple as it could be.

06 - Snowfall demo 13 - Xmas
    Created by: DarkStone
    Programming language: BASIC
    System requirements: MSX2
    Recommended: Moonsound
    Received: 03-01-2004
Description: A very nice drawing and (of course) some snow falling
Jury: Very nice graphics, a bit on the simple side. Impressive results for a BASIC demo!

07 - Snowfall demo 07 - Nieve
    Created by: Imanok
    Programming language: NestorBASIC
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 21-12-2003
Description: A cool drawing and multiple layers of snow falling
Jury: Shows the power of NestorBASIC. The snow is well-worked outh using depth. Nice drawing, and some user controls.

08 - Snowfall demo 15 - Lumi 2
    Created by: Nyyrikki
    Programming language: X-BASIC/NestorBASIC
    System requirements: MSX1
    Recommended: MSX2/MSX turboR/MSX-Audio/MSX-MUSIC
    Received: 04-01-2004
Description: This demo works on MSX1, but looks better on MSX2. If you want stereo music, a turboR is needed.
Jury: Good idea to adjust the effects based on the used MSX computer, good music.

09 - Snowfall demo 19 - 3K snow
    Created by: Maso Jose (WYZ)
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX1
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: A user-controlleable snowfall effect in just 3 kilobytes!
Jury: Good, but silent (but hey, it's only 3kB). Simple, but nice graphics

10 - Snowfall demo 23 - Sneeuw
    Created by: Aurora
    Programming language: C
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: It starts with a TV-like snow effect, but includes many extra's like (of course) a scroller
Jury: We didn't expect this one when we started a snowfall challenge. Quite a bit silly humor!

11 - Snowfall demo 14 - Merii Kurisumasu
    Created by: Alfonso D.C.
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX1
    Received: 04-01-2004
Description: A nice logo and a cool snowfall effect
Jury: Good snowfall effect. Great MSX1 feeling.

12 - Snowfall demo 08 - Christmas demo
    Created by: LarsThe18th
    Programming language: BASIC
    System requirements: MSX2
    Recommended: MSX-Audio/MSX-MUSIC
    Received: 23-12-2003
Description: Snow falling on a TV set, with several background songs and graphics
Jury: Nice, but not overwhelming. A devilish christmas? The music is nice, yet a bit droll

13 - Snowfall demo 16
Created by: Benno van den Boogaard (Scarr)
    Programming language: MSX-BASIC-KUN
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: You know those bulbs you have to shake to see some snow falling? Here's one of them for your MSX!
Jury: Another original concept. Nicely done, yet a bit simple

14 - Snowfall demo 17 - Oneliner
Created by: Sjoerd Mastijn (XL2S Entertainment)
    Programming language: BASIC
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: In the tradition of MCM/MCCM's 'Kort & Krachtig' series, Sjoerd created a snowfall effect in just one single line of MSX-BASIC commands
Jury: The return of Kort & Krachting on the MRC. Just snow, this time. MCM has seen much more impressive oneliners during their existance. Still, it was very entertaining to see some good old onelining in process.

15 - Snowfall demo 22 - Glop~
Created by: Maarten van Strien (Wolf)
    Programming language: BASIC
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: Behold the power of color cycles.
Jury: Smart use of colorcycles makes this demo look quite nice already. But, it could have been a K&K

16 - Snowfall demo 11 - Snowclimber (a game!)
    Created by: Vincent van Dam
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX1
    Received: 31-12-2003
Description: Not a demo, but a 2-player game. Which penguin is first to reach the top of the mountain?
Jury: We were thrilled to receive a game in the challenge as well! Both the game and the snow-effect are nice, yet the game is only interesting with 2-players behind the MSX.

17 - Snowfall demo 24
    Created by: Jan Lukens (Jalu)
    Programming language: BASIC
    System requirements: MSX2+
    Recommended: MSX turboR
    Received: 05-01-2004
Description: Using the SET SCROLL command to create the desired snowfall effect
Jury: It takes quite a while for this demo to start. turboR recommended indeed Even though the effect only uses SET SCROLL, it is a nice snow-effect. Never underestimate BASIC.

18 - Snowfall demo 10
    Created by: TAoA
    Programming language: NestorBASIC
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 29-12-2003
Description: Huge snowflocks falling the wrong way, with a nervous background
Jury: According to our knowledge, snow falls the other way. Perhaps the developers had turned their monitors upside down while coding? The second demo is nice, yet not very exciting.

19 - Snowfall demo 06 - Lumi
    Created by: Nyyrikki
    Programming language: X-BASIC
    System requirements: MSX1
    Received: 19-12-2003
Description: Santa Claus is standing in the snow.
Jury: Nice santa drawing, but the snowflakes are not very exciting.

20 - Snowfall demo 04 - Sneeu
    Created by: JP Grobler
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 16-12-2003
Description: Snowfall, a scroller and a lot of ice-cold jokes
Jury: The first snowfall demo with more than just snowflakes, adding a scroller. Too bad the scroller wasn't as smooth as it could have been. The graphics were okay, but perhaps could have been improved a bit before the deadline. You've got to like the jokes.

21 - Snowfall demo 09 - Snow
    Created by: Jussi Pitkanen
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX1
    Received: 23-12-2003
Jury: Just snow falling. Nice, but on the simple side.

22 - Snowfall Demo 01
    Created by: Nyyrikki
    Programming language: Brainfuck
    System requirements: MSX1
    Received: 25-11-2003
Description: Snow falling in text mode
Jury: Funny this effect, and that it can be programmed this way. Still, they demo itself lacks real appeal. Interesting for (brainfuck) programmers.

23 - Snowfall demo 03
    Created by: Albert Beevendorp (BiFi)
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX1
    Received: 12-12-2003
Description: Snow falling at random speeds, not in a straight line. It takes a while until the effect looks at its best.
Jury: Strange, pieceful to watch. Perhaps it was better to initialize the snowflakes at first?

24 - Snowfall demo 02 - Znow
    Created by: Maso Jose (WYZ)
    Programming language: Assembly
    System requirements: MSX2
    Received: 11-12-2003
Description: A screenshot of the MSX Resource Center (initial snowfall challenge post) and snow falling in front of it.
Jury: Great snow, excellent background No, without kidding, these snowflakes also have variable speeds so now and then, a real windlike effect. However, the screenshot gets in the way of the snowfall effect being really visible and the snowfall itself is quite slow.

25 - Snowfall demo 12 - Snowhite
    Created by: Joram van Hartingsveldt
    Programming language: BASIC
    System requirements: MSX2
    Recommended: Moonsound
    Received: 03-01-2004
Description: Snow falling, accompanied by four Moonblaster Wave songs
Jury: Several of our judges (and visitors) had problems actually getting the demo to work. The moonsound songs are nice, and so is the snowfall effect.

As we have stated before, every snowfall demo is worth watching. The members of the jury enjoyed themselves a lot reviewing every single demo, and we are looking forward to future challenges. Will you join in as well?

Well, even though I ended up 23rd, I did get a 3rd place as well... kinda...

And it's funny you can get to second place with 'old code'

Shhh! We paid you to keep that hush hush! You're blowing the cover! Until we have our price you wouldn't open your mouth, remember? So shhh!

Congratz to Guyver, though it's quite a pity >90% of the MSX users can't actually see it :S

Thanks guys, and congrats to all winners! And everyone thanks for participating, a contest without competitors is no fun

I'm quite surprised I actually won. I think it was quite hard to choose the order of the top 4!

Keep coding and keep msx'ing, people!

Wammes had the biggest votes, so he actually decided the outcome of the challenge.. So no, it wasn't really hard

Wammes is 3/4, mrc total = 1/4. And your question is to be expected

I don't have the final scores at this pc (work), so can't give you them ;P
