There was a thread not so long ago where a Japanese Bomberman game was mentioned, and many had never heard of it.

Well, here it is:

Both auctions are for Bomberman Special, not Bomberman.

True, but I have that one

In the other forum post there were two other bombermans mentioned, I am curious
about those two (never heard of those before the forum post)...

> Bomber Man (1983)
> Bomber King (1988)

I have that one. It's written Bomberman on the Bee Card though maybe the japanese word below it means Special.

I did it before writing. In the game main screen it's written BOMBERMAN SPECIAL, that's why I said that the japanese word in the title of the Bee Card (ボンバーマン should mean SPECIAL.

Check http://www.generation-msx.nl and search for a title that contains bomb, there you will find them with screenshots. There's even a Bomber Man 3D

I even heard of a never released MSX2 version of BomberMan (or maybe Bomber King).

Well, looks like "Bomber Man" is really "Eric and the floaters". Maybe the game was sold under the name "Bomber Man" in Japan and as "Eric and the floaters" in the rest of the world?

Hm, well, all bomberman's on generation-msx sure look like bomberman to me... Though Bomberman Special has that well known 'bomberman look' while Bomberman is a little puppet... probably an early version of bomberman, funny .

Though that Bomber King could be something else...

Very probable. I don't believe Hudson published "Eric and the Floaters" here themselves, so probably the licensee changed the name to something euh... more 'friendly'
And ofcourse they had to invent a stupid storyline too, coz you can't sell a cassette-game without a dumb storyline
