Hey all, anyone have an idea what the status is of this project?

Yesterday came across the master disk in my dusty 'ol MSX diskcase and found myself instantly playing again. (Didn't touch my MSX for 4 months before that). Then i wondered wouldn't it be nice to have a new ROA disk to continue playing. It's such an awesome game!

I thought I heard Rob Hiep saying that it was all because of Peter Meulendijks (game designer). It seems he doesn't enjoy editing anymore

yes, terrible... they promised about 27 editions of RoA but it ends with just a tiny master disk....

Hey, you know that typical expression 'the eyes are larger than the mouth' when one insist on having tons of food but eventually eat only a small bit

Certain developers have that same habit.. promising a lot.. delivering zippo. It's generally not very wise to make promises about a project with the size of 27 disks Let's say, you can make these promises in the middle of the night on some irc channel, but not to a person or company that acts as publisher and has to deal with all the users asking 'where is the rest?' ..

A few months ago another UMAX member joined the forums, and he was surprised there were people actually waiting for new chapters!
For some reason UMAX seems to think nobody cares about their products or something... Beats the hell out of me, I just don't get it. :/

Let's all post here to express our longing for new RoA chapters!

I think Peter Meulendijks just isn't interested in MSX anymore.
Maybe a petition can influence him indeed.
I don't think it's necessairy to make 27 more issues, but at least make a game with a finished storyline/ending.

Well, let's say, if his engine is done, AND one you can design the whole game w/o additional code, then anyone could make a game using that engine..

Perhaps he should release that engine if he doesn't feel like drawing/writing anymore ..

yeah, that would also be interesting for us (me) not so skilled programmers :-)

Making yer own RPG on that engine would be awesome...

But I wouldn't defenitly like another ROA ish too...

I always thought ROA was a 'Peter Meulendijks only' project...

Well ROA will never be finished by Umax.
I just spoke Peter Meulendijks and decided to stop
If he (peter) has some sparetime he will send me a complete cd-rom with all the UMAXstuff and sourcecode. But it is very understandable for someone that had to do it on his own.

We decided also to prepare an UMAX surprise as a finish.
I hope we can prepare for let say the meeting of MCWF.

To avoid misunderstandings ROA is never promised as a 26 and not 27 part story.
The engine was designed for 26 parts and that is something entirely different
So , Wolf's suggestion is very true and people are invited to help and not only ask where is it

We had to thank him and former members of UMAX for all the good work and also Cas Cremers !
Cas and Peter thanks for all
Petitions will unfortunately have no effect

I disagree on the 'Peter had to do it on his own'-part of the message, as it was simply not true. He chose to do things on his own, when is other Umax friends left, but he never even bothered to look around for new crew members. I'm sure he would have found some on the MRC , for instance. However, it would be great to see an active group of MSXers taking care of the ROA legacy. At least a disk 2 would be nice

I disagree with you snout. Would Maarten v.d Hoek help again.
He bothered to find someone and that was Vincent v.d. Vliet as you know ,so that was a little mistake of mine. And since he never read MRC then it was to me ofcourse to find helping hands and yeh I had found one and gave Peter the name and address.
But it remains the fact to have a team and not individual players for concepts as tlw,roa etc.And if it doesnot fit it will never work.
Take team bomba , that's a team knowing eachother.
A team of Guyver and Sjoerd never work , but are both excellent programmers

YOU shouldn't have to be the one to find HIM new teammembers.
If he doesn't want to read MRC, that's already a testament to his uncaring behaviour towards MSX.

And as for the promise of 26 or 27 parts... That number WAS mentioned when the inscriptions for this game started. I don't think even at that time nobody expected 26 parts, BUT at least 4 or 5 was reasonable...

It's a big shame the glory of UMAX has to end in such a way...

I think I have tried and that is enough and if it is a testament to his uncaring behaviour well that 's your opinion ofcourse. I would have helped to read MRC. I do it but if you see of the rest I have only the impression that swiss friend paul schaerer visit sometimes
