IMO all active MSX'ers should visit MRC regularly. But even if you don't, there are many other ways to contact fellow MSX'ers and fine new people to work on a game with you.
It's just weird that Sunrise needed to find new teammembers for Umax. Or Umax == Sunrise??

If he doesn't want to read MRC, that's already a testament to his uncaring behaviour towards MSX.
And as for the promise of 26 or 27 parts... That number WAS mentioned when the inscriptions for this game started. I don't think even at that time nobody expected 26 parts, BUT at least 4 or 5 was reasonable...
It's a big shame the glory of UMAX has to end in such a way...

If I am right 26 parts was never promised. It was said that it was possible to make it up to 26 disks big. Since they allready claimed that parts could be more then one disc and part 2 was supposed to be more then 1 disc. So I think 26 parts never was a option.
Still it's a shame that it has to end this way.
The main problem even if a someone is willing to take over is atmosphere and GFX.
Let's be real how manny decent GFX artists that could fix it (without mayor screw ups in style.) does the community still have ? (Might be nice to launch a GFX contest to see if we still got people that got the skills needed.)
However usseing the engine for something new might be more easy. |

Although we will do some Music and GFX only challenges in the future, we are now running the underwater challenge, in which you can send in plain GFX or Music as well. So, GFX artists around the world: show your MSX skills!! |

The way you put it isnot that simple.
First of all I am a tremendous lover of RPG-games, what makes it almost personal.
Second, if there is a complaint, bug or whatever they come to me because it is produced under Sunrise flag and gives a certain responsibility.
That responsibility stops if you have done your utmost to achieve your goal or something beyond your control.
So Umax isnot Sunrise and the otherway around !

Probably I did something wrong, but I never enjoyed playing RoA. Sure, the graphics were nice, there were some nice novelties as well (spellcasting, animations), the music was nice, the idea was nice, but the gameplay... I hardly played any game which was so tough to start with. If I remember correctly, it was quite hard to gain enough levels (or was it gold again?) to make a little bit progression in the game. Or maybe I just quit too soon because I had similar experiences with The Lost World - sometimes very, very long distances had to be walked to proceed in the game, monsters were so tough that battles seemed to last for ages (no, it was not a status cause or something, I can say I really am an experienced RPG-player)... I never felt an RPG so incredibly boring... PA3 was great, really great, I really enjoyed that game. Not only the music and graphics were good, but the gameplay was great as well. A really entertaining storyline but most important of all: a balanced gameplay. You didn't have to walk long distances to proceed, you didn't have to fight monsters for ages to get a level high enough to be able to smoothly proceed through the game...
Nevertheless I once offered Peter to help him with the new parts of RoA. Writing the plot, creating maps, things like that. But then I went to Japan for one year and I simply was too 'disconnected' to everything that I didn't do anything in the end. On the other hand, Peter never reminded me of my promise as well, so it probably was okay the way it was.

Just for the record, I'd like to thank Umax for them great RPG's they made. Whether ROA never will be finished or not, they deserve our respect.

Umax did make very cool games. Most of them with striking similarities to earlier released games, but nonetheless all of them high quality. Will there ever be a group like them continuing to make these kind of games?

Wow, rikusu, the game was as short as it is and you didn't manage to finish it?? ^_^ ooohh what flies there, hey it's my respect for you flying away ;p.
Ghehe...
But I kind of agree on TLW. A bit longwinded, it was. Sometimes. Finished it tho' . Funniest part was years afterwards, when I started to read the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, to find that they amongst others ripped all the names of countries and cities from it . Illian, Tear, Arad Doman, Tarabon... Bayle Domon, anyone? ...
And PA3 was absolutely awesome. Same goes for PA2, by the way (and I even enjoyed PA1 ). PA2 was really quite a hype in its days...

I think I have to set some things straight here regarding RoA
First, It's not that I do not have interest in MSX anymore. On the contrary.
The main problem I have is simply time. You must understand that making a game,
especially one like RoA, is very time consuming. With a full-time job, going to school
2 evenings a week, a wife and a daughter, time to work on RoA is hard to find.
(ok, I did not foresee this when I began RoA, but alas)
Second, to be frank, I found the interest in RoA a bit dissapointing, compared to the
interest for PA3 and Lost World. That didn't really help to motivate me either.
And most importantly, when part 1 was realeased, I had requested anyone with ideas for
RoA to please let me know. Anyone with any idea for a quest or character or whatever.
Except for Vincent v/d Vliet, I did not receive one response. Not very motivating either.
I must say though that I have been spending quite some time on MSX again lately.
I'm happy to say (thanks to Rob Hiep, btw) that I have now finally the Moonsound version
of Lost World ready (well, almost, some of the music needs to be shrunk a bit).
I am very interested in picking up work on RoA, but I cannot (and will not)
make any promises on deadlines, at least not if I have to do it alone.
If there are people on this forum who are seriously willing to help me with this project,
especially in the following departments:
- Editing areas (very time-consuming) (I will provide the editor and Gfx if needed),
- making up quests (big and small)
- programming quests (very time-consuming)
I might be able to finish part 2 (and who knows what else)
So consider this an official request for help.

Haha. You should read The Sword of Shannara as well if you want more laughs :-)
I've never been very good in thinking up original screenplays. Putting them together with stuff from other people I can do. |
