My personal circumstances have little or nothing to do with me being an MRC webmaster.

Although you're making me (and probably others) very curious about what you are talking about now, I suggest we don't take this thread further off-topic.

Like I said: let's have a beer in Tilburg and I will be very much pleased to hear your explanation.

So that's funny... hehe....
More advanced classic gaming and computing communities has already realised it's necessary to start thinking about ways to preserve old software and hardware. Floppy disks will start to fail, manuals will start to rotten, even hardware will stop to work. If you don't want to publish copyrighted material here, ok, that's your right, but don't always get in the way of people who really care about those things and want to preserve them or even share them with their fellow users. If there is any money to be done with the MSX community today, it is mostly due to pirated sofware which has been freely distributed over the Internet all these years. It has generated interest and helped to bring new members. Without this renewed interest MSX would be already dead by now, and there won't be any money to be done here. IMHO not all copyright infringment will generate losses to the legal owner. For example, lets supose I am a Star Wars fan and decide to create a nice t-shirt with some SW art printed on it. Lets say some fellow fans find my new t-shirt really nice and ask me to make copies to them. Of course I am going to charge for the material I will use, like the t-shirts themselves, transfers, brushes, etc. In the end I violated copyrighted material, but in turn I have helped to generate renewed enthusiasm around the movies and related merchandise. Just my 2 cents...

Exactly Opcode!!! How a simple topic like 'I want a konami manual' becomes again a copyright war whilst everybody has a shitload of copied games. Funet is the biggest shithole of them all.....

So f*ck*ng what... I give to much euro's to get me those original European Konami's... some of them are missing the original manual...

I see this topic of someone who wants to share scanned Konami manuals and I'm very happy. It's the only way to get me those missing manuals cause nobody sells them separate...

Instead of seein' a positive answer from somebody who says 'I have sum space left, let's dump m here' I see sum f*ck ups (excuse my language) who are whining about copyrights...

please, do me a favor, stick to the point...

Oh, my planet internet account gives me 25mb homepage space!! I can open it freely to put those .jpg on it cause I'm doing nothing with that space!!!

Maybe I didn't read thoroughly enough, but I thought the idea was brought up to host those manuals here, of which I only said that's something the MRC, due to the policies, can not do. I don't get in the way of anyone who wishes to put such a collection online. I just answered the question about whether it is legal or not. And it's not. But if you decide the risk is low, the damage small, an effort worth taking, sure, go ahead!

Nice try EvulOpah But Rikusu is right; the TS asked if those manuals could be hosted at MRC :

Quote:

I wonder if there is some way to upload those manuals scanned, perhaps to downloads section (documents or images) of MRC...

And Rikusu is damn right those manuals cannot be hosted at MRC. Do what you like with your own webspace EvulOpah, Rikusu won't mind

If someone owns an original cartridge, surely the ownship license includes that of the instruction book?

If a cartidge is sold without an instruction manual, surely the new owner is entitled to download a copy of the manual ?

If anyone wants to email me any then please feel free to do so - i dont mind hosting them - until of course i get an email from Konami demanding that I remove them, maybe I'll just put a disclaimer on my site.

Email anything useful to the email address on my web site.

Strictly speaking, no... The manual usually says "no part of this manual may be copied or reproduced by any means" or something like that.

In addition, the reselling of used software is often considered illegal.

Personally I agree that manuals for old games should be available, but for more recent things it can promote piracy a lot.

Absolutelly agree with you, opcode.

To evulopah : the original meaning of my post isn't "I want konami manual". Is "let's put all konami manuals together, maybe here at MRC, maybe in other URL if not".

The sense of my demand is as easy as opcode said : I usually visit forums and sites of abandonware. In this sites, scanned manuals and this kind of stuff are highly appreciated, due to the time that has been passed.

Normally there's absollutelly no trouble holding that (we are not selling anything... and is soooo old). MRC webmasters are fully granted to reject this option (is their site), so, let's look for another place (maybe funet?)
