What did you think of Tilburg?

Just a little topic to see how you all felt about Tilburg. Personally, I hadn't been to fair for over 7 years, and to be honest it wasn't at all bad. I was pleasantly surprised by the activity there and would like to see how everyone else felt. And if you weren't there, why not? Well, let's just see what comes out of this, and what else you all would like to see differently on the next fair. (I for one would like to see more MSX> signs so I don't get lost again )

It would be useful to add some more MSX> signs from the local bus station as well and I have been to Tilburg ever since they moved to De Schans...

I think the fair was quite busy, even after "last year's fiasco" where people seemed to think the fair was limited to the first floor only as there were no signs explaining about MSX activities on upper floors then. This time it was more clear there were more. Core MSX users already know there are more floors with MSX activity.

Not much new releases, though... It was fun to see how you can finally remove a cartridge without damaging your system with the Game Reader.

The existance of upper floors was only more clear because Bas K put up a sign... The organisation didn't do anything about that, and it's still a maze upstairs...

While I feel it was better organised than last year, the annoyances of the location can't be overcome. Since the large hall isn't available anymore the fair just went downhill, IMO.

We had a discussion about this in #msxdev yesterday, most people thought it was time for a new fair in Almelo or something.

Oss (january), Almelo (april), Bussum (september), that would be great. Nice geographic spread, and who needs more than 3 fairs a year?

I thought it was ok (but not much more). The real fun of the fair was to see all familiar faces again, and that can't be credited to the organization, I think . I agree there really wasn't anything better, it's just that msx.org didn't organize any big stuff this year so there's less that could go wrong (like last year). I more or less agree with Guyver that the location itself is a bit of a problem.

Almelo... I don't have much objection against it, and the idea sounds nice, but it would have to be arranged in cooperation with the CGV. Because we don't want this to turn into a 'fairs competition'. Participants will then choose sides, and it will only lead to fragmentation/decimation of both. This should only happen with the 'blessings' of CGV . Which I am sure they will be open to if approached decently, and given good arguments.

Oss (january), Almelo (april), Bussum (september) .. nicely spread accross the Netherlands - but what does that change to any foreign people here? Nothing, hold it in Maastricht, Groningen or wherever you like, those places are a pain to reach if you have to travel by car or by train if you are outside of the country... Paris would be nicely centered in Europe ))

let me guess... and it's a coincidence as you live in Paris, right?

I think you need to look at a map, Paris is not centered in Europe at all.

But, if you want a fair in Paris, organise one!

It's already tough to organise a proper fair in a city you don't live in, let alone a country you don't live in.

Almelo is a democratic location for the -quite many- ppl living in north-nl

I found Tilbeurs a bit boring.. not that much news, and the different rooms spread accross various floors didn't make it 'cosy'. From this perspective I like Oss the most.. (even with its lack of snackbars around 18:00 )

msxgamesbox lives in Belgium
Don't think an MSX fair in Belgium would get any visitors

Almelo?!? Well, guess I won't be going by car then... But if people *do* organize new fairs... *please* make sure you do it close to the local train station. Make sure it is in walking dinstance, or at least reachable by taking one single bus. I'd hate not to be able to visit a fair just because people think it's funny to pick a location that's 35 minutes away from the nearest train station...

if it would be organised outside the Netherlands, I think most of the Dutch visitors and groups would drop out...
people are already not comfortable with most locations in the Netherlands.. imagine when they would be outside the Netherlands... not only to speak of the travelling costs..
AFAIK the only reasonably active countries in Europe would be the Netherlands, Spain (which already has it's own fair which is not quite visited by Dutchies), Italy and France.
Though France would be more central to those countries than the Netherlands, I still think that it would be too far away for the foreigners, including Dutchies.

I think a fair in Paris would be very inconvenient for many people who don't know french as most french people have a hard time talking english in France (no offence guys).

I think the Dutchies are very tolerant when it comes to foreign languages in the Netherlands.

We could have one in England - the English rarely speak many languages - there is little hope of having one in England, not many UK MSXers, and the cost of travel would no doubt put off forgien visitors
