Heh... Isn't it an idea to come up with a new MSX.ORG challenge, being the most promising member? That is, determining the post count of the last series of newest members (over a timespan of 3 months or so), and then determining their average postcount/day?

/me is quite sure /me would win that contest

might be an idea, but posts in 'social' don't count then

Rubbish. It doesn't matter how much you post, but what you post.
Furthermore, it borders on becoming quite incestuous if a forum community starts awarding its fellow members.

'Today's most valued member is...'

And moreover, if you post anything, it's almost always useful, otherwise it wouldn't be posted. Nah? What do you think of this?

all-in I think it's useless You get ppl posting tons of semi-spam .. or reactions split into pieces.. just to increase the posting-count ..

As if anyone would do that just to increase his/her postcount... L.A.M.E.

It's useless indeed, but on the other hand, just a nice and funny feature, don't you agree?

hmyeahwelluhm.. Personally I wouldn't care about it.. I think most ppl don't..

Reacting on a topic or reading news is pretty much all what I do here, I wouldn't care who's the MSX'er of the day

Well, what's (for MRC) the difference between editing a newspost and editing a regular forumpost ? I usually want to edit typos .. and since all other fora of any style allow editing it's sortof an accepted thing that one posts typos and fixes them afterwards while editing

the typical moderator answer...

it just as convenient as it is in the forum. if you keep it open for editting by the poster for the same period as you do in the forums, then what's the problem? just as wolf_ says.

Hehe.. it's not a moderators answer, it's a lazy coder's answer. It's on the ToDo list, just not planned for the very near future .

I never understood why there is a difference between the news reply and forum code in the first place. I'm guessing "historical reasons" (the usual suspects ).

Seriously though: it seems logical to make an invisible forum "news reactions" and for each news post, create a thread in that forum. Then you get features such as editing and multiple pages for free.

I like the "quick reply" feature by the way. You should have one in the news reactions as well.

I think it's a nice option if it comes to admins though. But to users.. Neah.. Not for me

To add to my comment: I'm a system admin my self, and the number of posts somehow can tell how much a user is 'using' yer site.

But then again, I whould not like it to be a compo like 'who places the most posts' cauz I'm afraid that people might use that compo to make more (unserious) posts..
