Problem with Yamaha FD-03 external MSX floppy drive

I have two FD-03 units. It's a cartridge, external 1DD floppy drive and a power supply for it.

I have problems booting MSX-DOS with it on my Yamaha CX5M computer...

I can list, read and write files from basic - no problem...

The floppy is formatted as 1DD (360KB) and boots MSX-DOS on A1WSX...

Any ideas why? Is it a problem with FD-03 bios? Or it's a defective unit?

BTW: Ultimate MSX FAQ incorrectly lists FD-03 as a 2DD (720K) external floppy drive. In reality it's 1DD (360K) drive.

Heya! Did anyone ever tried to boot MSX-DOS on Yamaha CX5M (MSX-1) with external floppy drive?

Floppy drive is Yamaha FD-03, but it shouldn't matter, because it works fine and boots MSX-DOS in all my other MSX computers.

You need at least 64 kB for msx-dos.
cx5m has only 32 kB

Thank you Bas, is it possible to upgrade it to 64KB?

Hello

There are special carts for the yamaha. I have a silver coloured yamaha Yis503F
This one has a 32 kb expansion module on the bottom of the computer with an extra cartridgeslot in steat of the music extension.
Not all yamaha msx-1's are music computers.

I have CX5-M, it's a music computer ("call music", SF-05 synth unit etc.)

I know anout external cartridge, but I was curious if it is possible to do it internally. MSX-1 with 64K and two slots is so much better then 32K
